A missing man was found dead in a stolen, crashed car 35 feet off a highway north of Salem, officials said.

Oregon State Police troopers responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash at 11:30 p.m. Monday near Highway 221 and Hopewell Road NW.

The trooper found a yellow Ford Focus off the roadway and discovered the body of the man partially ejected from the vehicle.

The crash occurred several days before the car was discovered, around the same time the man's girlfriend had reported him as missing.

The license plates match those of car reported as stolen. The man was identified as the suspect in the theft.

Police are withholding the man's name pending next of kin notification.
