Rob Auton: The Crowd Show 4****

| On 27, Aug 2022

We are whisked into a VIP area, but sadly no Cristal champagne was on offer, but soon we were invited to join another elitist social sub set and find ourselves reciting tribalistic football like chants, these targeted against those who dared come late, so we are VIP after all!. Rob really does involve the audience, row by row, block by block. He has a tender approach and we go along with his meandering observations.

His show has suddenly became very popular at this year’s fringe after a visit from Deborah Meaden yes, her of Dragons Den fame, touchingly he asks how many came to the show on the back of her praiseful tweet , not many it seems , who’s been before? He asks showing a vulnerability which draws us further into his obscure fables. He tells us he is extremely comfortable with audiences and indeed he does carry it off very well, in a quiet, stumbling, random style.

He parades on stage like a bumbling school teacher carrying an implausibly weighty bunch of notes, Auton explains that calling the register in school may never have seemed like a big deal , but in reality we learn that your place in the alphabet is vitally important, a very curious and thought provoking discovery that perhaps only Mr Auton could come up with.

Visit Mr Autons world at the fringe this year you will be a definitely be treated to VIP comedy .
