Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Speaking of the chip butty... I endeavored to make myself one the other day, hopefully I stayed somewhat true to the idea, you British folk can steer me straight if needed...

So I stopped at the store and grabbed some potatoes. I tend to prefer red, golden, or purple potatoes when I eat them. They tend to be less dry, have more flavor, and I can turn them into anything really. I picked up a sack of goldens for this experiment, I thought they might lend themselves to being particularly suited to being consumed in a butty. I was on the lookout for a good brown sauce as I do not have one at home but the store I was at had nothing of the sort so I resorted to picking up the only malt vinegar they had on the shelf. After picking up some good white bread, I headed home for lunch.

After washing the potatoes, the Guardian Lambsfoot made short work of them, slicing them into manageable sections.

I do not have a deep fryer so I opted to just fry up the potatoes in some olive oil. Please forgive me if this happens to be a transgression...

While the potatoes (chips) were frying, I spread some butter on a couple slices of bread.

Chips are done, I am rather fond of pepper, so there is a liberal sprinkling of ground black pepper and some seasoned salt.

Laid them out, still hot, on the buttered bread and sprinkled some malt vinegar on them.

Cut it in half and consumed shortly after.

So my first butty was a bit dry I thought, but the flavor was surprisingly excellent. In the absence of brown sauce, I thought some ketchup might do. However, since my household does not consume much in the way of ketchup, I couldn't find any in my fridge so I made up another butty and was more liberal in my application of butter and malt vinegar and that particular one was most excellent. I am still going to get a hold of some good brown sauce and have another go at it but I can honestly say that this was a surprisingly rewarding experience and I am looking forward to my next one.

Well done Dylan, and it's great to see your Guardians Lambsfoot in use :) Certainly not traditional here, but I think potatoes or chips fried in olive oil are excellent. I happened to be looking online this afternoon, and found a surprising amount of US content about chip butties! EG - http://www.sandwichtribunal.com/2015/06/chip-butty-the-british-empire-strikes-back/ ("I wasn’t even drunk and this was the best butty I’d had.") :D There's even a Pittsburgh restaurant famous for adding chips or fries to all their sandwiches (their sandwiches DO look rather good!) :D

I also discovered that the fans of one of Sheffield's two soccer football teams, nicknamed 'The Blades' have a song, which references the chip butty: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Greasy_Chip_Butty_Song
To the tune of 'Annie's Song', they sing:

"You Fill Up My Senses,

Like A Gallon Of Magnet

Like A Packet Of Woodbines,

Like A Good Pinch Of Snuff,

Like A Night Out In Sheffield,

Like A Greasy Chip Butty,

Like Sheffield United,

Come Fill Me Again..."

My ebony Lambsfoot has just been helping me make...

Fantastic news Harry! :) :) You are very welcome my friend, I'm just relieved your knives finally made it (I actually kept back one of each for you in case they didn't)

Well , after much gnashing of teeth and checking on the shipping number : I have to agree with everyone else that it is not easy to capture the depth of the covers .
The Midnight Special is just one Classy looking knife to my eyes . Notice the size of the Nail Nick . Best description that I can make of the color is Dusky to Smokey Brown on Mark & Pile Sides with a small line of white on the Pile Side

I had been wondering just how deep the Rat Tailed Bolsters were

The next knife is somewhat more FLASHIER . Notice the size of the Nail Nick . Coloration on Mark Side is some black , some white , some browns & tans

The Pile Side has even a little more Flash of Feathering in the same colors .

F&F of both knives is fine . Blade actions are fine . Pins are flush and smooth on both . Both of the Blades are sharp and evenly ground .
Very happy with both knives . My favorite one is the Midnight Special , which is probably contrary to other peoples opinions .

Thanks again Jack , A. Wright , and Dylan !!!

“We are Achaians coming from Troy, beaten off our true course by winds from every direction across the great gulf of the open sea, making for home, by the wrong way, on the wrong courses. So we have come. So it has pleased Zeus to arrange it.” ;)

Thanks for taking some pics Harry :) It is certainly very difficult to capture all the facets of the multi-layered horn (my own seems to be a different colour every time I photograph it). I think that is particularly true of the Midnight Specials, but having seen them close-up, I can entirely understand why you favour it over the other beauty, the dark covers have a real subtle depth to them, very classy I think. I'm glad you're pleased with them :)

Congrats, scrteened porch!! It was worth the wait; very nice!
You too Harry, and you guessed right; I like the colorful one better!!:)

"The diagonal striping on the mark side of Charlie's knife reminds me of a barber pole or a candy cane!!:cool::rolleyes: The pile side is the first example of a Guardians Lambsfoot whose horn brought to mind (at least to MY twisted mind ) a sunset at one end, a sunrise at the other, and the old saying, "The sun never sets on the British Empire." :D
Heh!! I'll always remember your descriptions when I pick up this knife, GT!!
Thanks!!:)

The black gunk is pretty well out of mine, the second application of mineral oil running clear at the joint.

the ones I sent out have all been received now :)

It must be quite a relief to have them all safely to their posted destinations! I hope you’ll be able to rest easily now.

And, I hope this milestone also gives you a sense of well-earned satisfaction about the project. You’ve accomplished something marvelous, my friend, and I’m looking forward to seeing the stories of these very special Lambsfoot knives unfolding out over the years to come.

A belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our Brother Guardian and Master Pocket-Sheath Maker Dylan! :) Hope you had a great day Dylan

It certainly is my friend, I've lost count of how many times I've checked those tracking numbers! :D Thank you very much :)

I think you just made my Lamsfoot blush.:D

Great pic pal :)

Thanks for a most entertaining and eloquent post GT, and for the kind words, I am pleased with how it all turned out :D :)
You would make an excellent art critic GT! :D  Yes, there are a few still to be shown. Thirty knives in total, including the 5 Midnight Specials. ...
Quite a notable piece of posting there GT. Thanks for the tour:thumbsup:
Thanks for all the descriptions, GT. I love the way everyone's knife is different, but I'm too lazy to go back and find each picture and compile them on one page like you did. Very cool!...
agree GT did a great job compiling all the knives. ...
Jack, Alan, Rachel, & Keith, I'm glad you liked my "review". :) It was a good way for me to get a better appreciation for, and more enjoyment from, all those fantastic knives!:thumbsup:

...
GT! It's so good to see you posting here. I've also been time constrained and haven't been checking in on the Totin' thread and have been missing seeing your thoughtful posts there. Your review today of the Guardians Lambsfoot knives and concise descriptions of all of their character is just what I was needing this morning after an unexpectedly very late night helping out with an urgent issue at work.

Great description! I don't know whether you know this, but I took the photo of the mark side on the first day we had mostly clear skies after several days of smoke and haze from the wild fires burning north of us in Napa and Sonoma. Your description was very apropos.

And, lamb-clawed, I love it! That photo didn't really do it justice. In person it looks similar to some pieces of agate I've seen. I'll have to see if I can get a better photo this week.

Thanks again for your fantastic GL recap, GT, and I hope your work load eases up, at least a little bit, soon.
Thanks, as always, for your kind words, Greg! :) The info about the timing of the first photo of your Guardian Lambsfoot at your "spot" was another of the amazing coincidences in my "knife life"; when I wrote the description, I didn't give any thought to where you're from or the fires raging in the region. I look forward to more photos of your knife, as well as those of everyone else that has one!:cool::cool::thumbsup:

I agree with GT- The level of "Activity" in the Horn has been great viewing! Everyone seems to have lucked out on some really nice Knives!!! Nicely done Jack - this has been a credit ti you my friend, and I am sure that everyone who has one of those specialties agrees!
Man theres been some nice photo's posted here!
+ 5K! :thumbsup::thumbsup: I agree with Duncan!! :D

Congrats, Jer, that might be my personal favorite in terms of handles!!:thumbsup::cool::thumbsup: My first two thoughts on seeing your pics were "a wing and a prayer" and "buffalo wings"!! :D:thumbsup::thumbsup:

5K Qs 5K Qs I forgot to thank you, GT, for your thoughtfully composed observations regarding each of our Guardians edition Lambsfoot knives. Thank you so much, they were a delight to read!
...
My pleasure, Dylan. :) (I thoroughly enjoyed your chip butty post!:cool::cool::thumbsup:)

Heh!! I'll always remember your descriptions when I pick up this knife, GT!!
Thanks!!
You're welcome, Charlie. I really appreciate seeing a former Buffalo resident enjoying his buffalo horn acquisitions!!:cool:;)

I think you just made my Lamsfoot blush.:D

FBC, the photos you all are posting are raising MY blood pressure, so it's only fair if I can make your knife blush! :D Do you think you'll name this one? (I liked your name for Betty, and was a little surprised both Barrett and I made the same immediate musical connection. Of course, as always, Barrett came up with a relevant video, while my reaction was simply to mutter to myself, "Bam ba Lam". Hey, make that "Bam ba Lamb" and we've got a Guardians theme song!)

Those are both good. It does look more like wings than the flames I was thinking of.

Breaking her in gently, and I probably owe the local post office an apology.

I don't refer to knives as "she"s, Charlton Heston's cold wife and Siegfried Sassoon's sweet sister notwithstanding, but "it" isn't good enough for this one.

Those are both just great Harry! Worth the wait, I would say? I'm also glad I took on the midnight specials. It's coloration seems to change more subtly. Mine has an almost gray cast to it in some light. Well done sir!
