Why Aren’t Running & Walking Shoes The Same?

It’s time to buy a pair of shoes and there seems to be a Nike shoe sale everywhere you look! Sure, it may be tempting to pick the first pair of shoes, but there are plenty of other factors you need to take into consideration when looking for a practical pair of shoes for your walking or running needs.

What Do You Need Them For?

Do you walk or run? Walking shoes are designed specifically for those who spend a lot of time on their feet. A great pair of walking shoes should be able to provide you with stability from the back of your foot to underneath your arches. You will feel a lot better if you choose your shoe based on the activity you perform on a daily basis.

Shoe Support

You will want a pair of shoes that have more cushioning if you have high arches in your feet. This is due to the fact that high foot arches affect the way your feet take an impact. The result of this is a lower ability to handle motion impact. On the other hand, those with flat feet would want a shoe with extra stability. You will find that muscle and joint stress can come on as a result of shoes that don’t have enough support.

Why Can’t an Athletic Shoe Be Used For Everything?

Even though that one pair of shoes at the shoe sale looks tempting, you will be much better off if you invest in a specific shoe for a specific activity. Your body motion changes with each movement you make. With this in mind, you should pick a shoe that can support your biometrics across all movements.

Reputable shoe stores have experienced sales assistants who can answer your questions about the type of shoe that may be best for you. Use the internet as a pre-search tool when looking for the best shoe for your purpose. The more information you collect researching a shoe brands, the better prepared you will be when you making a purchase at the shoe store.

The Breakdown

Let’s take a minute to talk about the differences between walking shoes and running shoes. You will find that walking shoes are basic because walking is a basic activity. You can choose from performance shoes if you are somebody who needs a lightweight shoe to cope with more extreme activities. Cushioned shoes are ideal for those who walk long distances regularly. Additionally, stability shoes are very beneficial to those who need more control with their motion in order to prevent injuries.

On the other hand, running is a different kind of movement than walking is and it comes with its own requirements. Running shoes are lighter than walking shoes and are more cushioned to absorb the impact better. You will find that the bulk of the cushion is around the heels as that is the area that takes the most impact.

The bottom line is that you need to really think about the type of activity you are using the shoe for and buy a pair that matches it. This is the easiest way to find the proper shoe for your lifestyle.
