NEWPORT, Ore. – A special education assistant at Newport High School is accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old student, police officials said.

The investigation began in January of 2015 when someone said they saw Stewart Curry, 61, of Toledo, leave a locked storage closet with the student.

In May 2017, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office investigated Curry for a different sexual assault case involving a minor.

Newport Police worked with sheriff’s deputies and found more evidence related to the 2015 case.

Curry was arrested at his home in Toledo on Tuesday for first degree rape, first-degree sodomy, and first-degree sex abuse.

He was booked into the Lincoln County Jail with bail bond set at $1,500,000.

If you have any helpful information in this case, call detectives at (541) 574-3348.
