Uttar Pradesh: School Principal Asks Sikh Boy Not to Wear Turban

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—A Sikh student named Navjot Singh studying in grade X was reportedly asked not to wear turban by the principal of St. Mary’s School in Najibabad of Uttar Pradesh. A complaint in this regard has been lodged by the local Sikhs to the sub-divisional magistrate.

Sharing the development with media, Balbir Singh, head of the Shri Guru Singh Sabha, informed that the principal of St. Mary School asked Navjot Singh not to wear turban two days ago. He added that the principal has even straight forwardly asked the parents of this boy that he won’t be allowed to enter into school if he continues to wear the turban.

“We have lodged a complaint in this concern and copies of this complaint have been sent to the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) in Amritsar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah,” he said.

He further said that the local Sikhs won’t refrain from staging protests if the school principal doesn’t withdraw the diktat.
