State Disciplines Home Care Aide It Says Left a Client Alone After Getting Locked Out

A Thurston County home care aide had his credential revoked after he claimed he got locked out of a client's home and left.

According to the state's Department of Heath, Nathan Gibson was working in Olympia for a private caregiver agency in April and caring for a man who was recovering from a total hip replacement surgery. The client reported he woke up at about 1 a.m. one morning and "made several attempts to locate (Gibson) for assistance."

Gibson later told the agency he went out to his car to get a blanket and got locked out the client's home. He left and "made no attempts to contact the agency for assistance," according to the state.

Gibson's credential as a home care aide was revoked in November. The Department of Social and Health Services determined Gibson neglected a vulnerable adult, disqualifying him from caring for vulnerable adults, juveniles and children.
