GBI investigating disabled adult neglect in Murray County

MURRAY COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — The Murray County Sheriff’s Office called in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on Sunday for a case involving neglect and abuse of a disabled adult.

The GBI says EMS responded to a medical emergency on Mason Road in Crandall of a adult male who was bedridden due to medical issues.

According to information released by the GBI, EMS found the man with open wounds, an insect infestation, and extremely poor living conditions.

The man was taken to Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton where the GBI says he is in intensive care.

EMS reported the conditions the man was in to the Murray County Sheriff’s Office who then called in the GBI.

The GBI says toxic conditions in the home required investigators to wear Tyvek suits and breathing apparatus during their investigation.

Officials say law enforcement is working to condemn the property.

According to the GBI, 46 year-old Lisa Alexander has been arrested and charged with neglect of a disabled adult, reckless conduct, and six counts of cruelty to animals.
