Fellow Guardians,
Below--and in the next post, because of post length limitations--is a tentative indexing of the first ten fifteen pages of this thread.
I didn't format it manually. Instead I wrote some computer software that takes a list of post numbers and tags indicating their content and then outputs an index formatted so that the forum software can read it. For example, post
#47 shows up in the index three times below because it is tagged as (1) discussing the lambsfoot name, (2) referencing another thread, and (3) having an example of an Abram Brooksbank lambsfoot.
This means that it's easy for me to change how the index is formatted. For example, I can already tell that we'll probably need to truncate the list of A. Wright examples by the time the index is complete since they are so popular. Perhaps I'll try to maximize the number of different members whose examples appear in the index. If you have ideas on that or any other improvements or alternatives for the index formatting, please PM me.
More importantly, it means that
it's easy for anyone to contribute to the indexing effort. You don't need to worry about formatting links or owning a section. You don't even need to worry about running my software. All you need to do is volunteer to review a few pages of the thread and list the tags that go with the posts that should be included in the index. Send those to me in a PM, and I'll include them in the index. Once you get the hang of it, it's a quick and fun way to review old posts.
If you are interested in helping me make the index, please PM me, or VM me with an email address I can use to contact you, and I'll give you detailed instructions and assign you a few pages to get started on. If you enjoy it and have more time, I'll happily give you more.
Thanks for your support of this project. I'm excited to see how it looks once we have all of the pages indexed.
Greg
