UPND challenges Government to provide empowerment funds to street vendors

UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema has challenged the Patriotic Front Government to provide trading spaces and empowerment funds to street vendors to enable them survive the current harsh economic conditions.

Mr. Hichilema noted that with the ever depressing economic situation in the country, the PF regime should stop looting public resources through corruption and channel the money to helping citizens.

He said the PF should offer safe and conducive trading places to citizens that are trading in the streets and ensure these places are provided with toilets, water and other sanitary facilities so as to avoid waterborne diseases such as cholera and dysentery.

Mr. Hichilema said it is important that the street vendors are provided with some resources to enable them expand their businesses so they can grow.

He also noted the need to remove PF cadres from the markets where they are charging them illegal levies and basically terrorising citizens.

Mr. Hichilema said ultimately, there must be a well thought out strategy to create meaningful jobs for citizens, particularly young people and women.

He noted that there is a lot of money being stolen from the treasury by the PF leaders who are currently living lavishly while citizens are suffering.

    • Removing them from the streets and or Pretending to ignore they exist is not a a coherent solution.

They will always exist and I agree with HH – provide solutions to therm.

    • Poor thinking badala. Yes they need to removed from the streets, but government should not provide any funding to them. Is this the way you’ll be running your tribal government?

    • “He noted that there is a lot of money being stolen from the treasury by the PF leaders who are currently living lavishly while citizens are suffering.”

Infact theft by public servant of the waste kind is one that involves the sell of our assets and externalizing proceeds thereof.

Like the money you stole from the sell of mines, you keep benefiting and living lavishly like them while citizens are suffering.

You and them are one and the same thing to say the least. Why are you not convicted, you ask? The same way you keep yapping without doing anything over it. Don’t generalize, tell us who has stolen, from where, how much, and what have they selfishly built out’a stolen money.

A leader ought to be pragmatic in the fight against corruption not through rants based on…

    • … hearsays like FIC.
At the end of the day, you sound like me who calls you a thief based on what Lusambo, CK and others say about you.

What they say about you could be true or false. What you say about them could be true or false.
But I believe it’s true in both cases based on the spirit of discernment.
And all that rant in the name of fighting for the poor vis orphans and a widows. Ala Mulungu akamikanda bashetani.
      Kleptomaniac psychos.

  1. Formalise them and put them on the outer skirts of roads with inbound traffic leading into the town centre. Keep the busy business centre free of vendors. Relax the laws for vendors to trade Informally just until things ease economically.

HH is wrong to ask for funding to be provided from a cash strapped govt. Private Sector and especially him, and others should increase benefactor donations through a central organisation. It is also time for citizens to be kind to others where you can …..do help. I allow 6-9 women in front of mother’s business properties to trade along he roadside so they can feed their families. We should all jump in to help prevent hardship.

  2. Someone need to have something very wrong with their brains to be follower of such a lunatic. Today he says the government is broke tomorrow is asking the same broke government to fund street vendors. This is the same person who in is early campaigns was against vendors now that he realizes were the votes are, he wants nice to vendors. HH Zambians do not have short memories. The copper belt still wants answers has to why during privatization you are the only one that came out rich while the rest died of hunger.

    • And at one time he said re-basing will weaken the kwacha and another, he says he can’t work with apf government and now he is talking to them .What type of a leader is this. A pf,ignore, don’t respond manyenyengwe!!!

  3. Empowerment funds will be provided in 2021…I wonder how many have repaid those loans BUFFOON CK was dishing out in 2016 when he was in govt?

  4. @ 6 KCI, in as much as i respect your opinion, i do not think it is right for you to question HH’s followers’ mental capacity, every person is free to support what they think is right. Just like you are not seeing anything wrong with the way things are currently (despite your former minister of finance noting that all is not well), they too are entitled to their belief. Don’t expect everyone to bury their heads in sad. I guess it’s the issue of “The Empire’s new clothes” at play in Zambia

  5. 6 KCI CHIKOMPOSANA.THESE ARE MORONS WHO FOLLOW BLINDLY AND WORSHIPPING SOMEONE WHO DOESN’T MAKE SENSE.WANKUMUNSHI SANA& HAS NO RESPECT FOR ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION MOTTO.U ARE SICK IN THE BRIANS
