Boynton Beach will hold budget workshop meetings next week to review the newly proposed budget of $202.4 million and hear residents’ comments and concerns.

The meetings will be held in the program room at the Boynton Beach City Library, 208 South Seacrest Ave. they will be held at 5 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. Tuesday. A third meeting would be held Wednesday if it is deemed necessary.

The budget, which is available on the city’s website at boynton-beach.org, will be reviewed at the meetings, and public comments are welcome.

City Manager Lori LaVerriere submitted a proposed budget of $83.3 million for the city’s general fund, a 4.9 percent increase over the 2016-2017 budget. The budget is recommending increasing the fee for fire services by $20 per homeowner, from $100 to $120.

The proposed budget of $202.4 million is for all city funds, including the general fund, utility operations, solid waste, debt service, golf course and other smaller funds. The budget also proposed that the property tax rate, which is used to calculate taxes on property, remain the same. But because of rising property values, most tax bills will go up.

Officials are also ready to officially adopt new rules for group homes, including sober homes. In June, city commissioners gave initial approval to three key rules:

— Mandatory certification for sober homes through the Florida Association of Recovery Residences, including existing homes.

— A distance of 300 feet between all group homes, updating a 2013 ordinance that established a separation distance requirement of 1,000 feet.

— Increased parking requirements, preventing front yards from being paved to accommodate more cars per home.

The new rules would also increase the maximum number of residents in the homes from six to 10. Commissioners will vote on the group-home regulations a second time at the July 18 city commission meeting.
