About three weeks ago, Raju called me to enquire about my photography services for an upcoming children’s birthday party. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that he discovered me through a web search. I haven’t actually been optimizing my posts to be search-friendly, hence I was curious of his search terms. He must have clicked through the “next page” (endlessly) in google’s listing to have unearthed me!
Nevertheless, I was more than happy at the prospect. It was to be a simple children birthday party for his 2 years old twin daughters. Simple? Well, that was what he said. If the turnout of the crowd was anything to go by, perhaps, yes, simple that was. But when I arrived two Sundays ago for the shoot at his condominium, I was taken aback by the extent to which he’d planned the birthday party for his daughters.
Both Raju and wife are from Chennai, India. Raju is an expatriate doing quantity surveying and project management. He has been living in Malaysia for a couple of years now. He’s a very easy going and warm amiable chap whose eyes always lit up when it comes to his lovely daughters; Daaksha and Dhaanvi, both born in Malaysia.
Both these little girls were very active and were always on the run. Their birthdays were supposedly back in December, but they couldn’t hold the celebration then as they were sick. The theme for this children’s birthday party was “Lady Bird’; hence it was all things lady bird!
From paper cups, paper plates, labels on water bottles to serviettes and matching red spoons and forks; everything was planned in line with the theme. Both Daaksha and Dhaanvi were in their lady bird costumes, complete with matching head gears, shoes and even watches!
So it came as no surprise to see that the cake was a cutely decorated mound of grass with lady birds on them and a nearby tray of lady bird cup cakes and chocolates.
And guess what? Party guests were also treated with a goodie bag door gift.
The party started at 5 pm while guests only started pouring in closer to 6 pm. After Raju’s daughters changed into their birthday costumes, they ambled around with their newly opened presents given by fast arriving guests, before being distracted by some balloons.
By 6.30 pm, it was cake-cutting time. I can’t imagine myself digging into such an elaborately decorated cake!
Of all the children’s birthday parties I’ve attended, this must definitely be the most elaborate and sophisticated one ever! In hindsight, I was surprised that guests weren’t required to abide by the theme. Had it been so, that would have been truly awesome!
VERY NICE
