Yankees’ Gleyber Torres addresses his defensive struggles

Gleyber Torres made his eighth error at shortstop on Wednesday, a number he knows is too high.

He called his defense this season “regular, I guess.”

“I had a little struggle in the beginning [of the season], but I feel confident,’’ Torres said. “Errors are part of the game… I really don’t like to make errors, like I don’t like to strike out.”

Torres was announced Thursday as a Special Olympics Global Ambassador, joining the Cubs’ Willson Contreras. According to a statement, the two Venezuelan-born players “will work to build bridges of inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities spanning the Americas, specifically partnering with Special Olympics New York and Special Olympics Florida.’’

J.A. Happ has gone from an afterthought to one of the Yankees’ best starters. He’s due to make his final start of the regular season Friday against the Marlins in The Bronx. In his last six outings, the left-hander has a 1.93 ERA over 37 innings with 36 strikeouts, five walks and allowed just four homers.

“He’s rounded into shape like a true professional,’’ said Blake, who added Happ is having “arguably one of, if not our best stretch, over six starts.”

Since coming off the IL, Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge haven’t produced much. Stanton served as the DH and went hitless and is in a 1-for-16 slide with eight strikeouts. Judge entered as a pinch hitter and went 0-for-2 to drop him to 5-for-25, with no extra-base hits in six games.“That was the first game he wasn’t controlling the strike zone,’’ Boone said. “In a lot of ways, he’s ahead of where I thought he’d be. I’m pleased with how he and Judge have bounced back physically.” … Clint Frazier, without the mask he’s worn since spring training 2.0 began, broke an 0-for-14 slide with a leadoff single in the seventh. … Gio Urshela extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a second-inning double.

Boone said Stanton had looked good at the plate until Wednesday’s loss.
