Graveside service for Sharon “Katie” Chandler, 67, Lawton will be at 10:00 am Monday, November 17, 2014 in the Cache Cemetery with Pastor Dave Menge, Western Hills Christian Church, Lawton, officiating.

Katie passed away Thursday, November 13, 2014 in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Burial will be in the Cache Cemetery under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

She was born February 16, 1947 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Robert Thadius and Gertie Lee (Gosnell) Tate. She was a military wife for over 25 years and had been all over the world with her husband. At the age of 28 she lost her eyesight and had to raise two children by herself. She never took no for an answer and never let her blindness get in the way of living her life or raising her children. She was a great spirit to all and had a genuine compassion for people. She always had a smile on her face. Katie was an advocate for the blind, and was instrumental in several groups that focused on help for the blind. She developed the VIP Group in Lawton, worked with the Lions Club and was a regular to many online focus groups for the blind. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her children, Michael Chandler of Gladewater, TX, Crystal Watts of Oklahoma City, OK, Jeremy W. Blaylock of Phoenix, AZ, grandchildren; Emerald Watts, Jennifer Chandler, Melissa Chandler, Aaron Chandler, Ashley Chandler, Alexis Chandler, Jeremy Blaylock, Jr., Joshua Blaylock, a great granddaughter Alexia Grace Rodriguez, two brothers, Leon and Eugene Tate and a sister Erma Lee Cothren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Dessie Tyler and a brother Walter Tate.
