Man accused of assaulting vulnerable adult

An Oronoco man made his first appearance last week in Olmsted County District Court, where he's been charged with sexually assaulting a vulnerable adult.

Michael Jon Campeau, 54, faces one count each of first-, second- and third-degree criminal sexual conduct, all felonies. He was released on his own recognizance and is due back in court March 1.

The investigation began in July, when a woman contacted Rochester police and told them she'd seen Campeau lying on the floor next to the victim, who was spending the night. According to the complaint, the woman asked Campeau what he was doing; he admitted he'd touched the victim sexually. He allegedly said he'd touched the vulnerable adult on another occasion as well.

The victim reported the assault to her parents when she returned home, the reports say, telling them Campeau had touched her on multiple occasions. She'd recently gone on a two-week vacation with him, which is when she said the contact occurred.

The victim told authorities that the night the woman had seen them lying on the floor, the assault had been ongoing for two hours, court documents say. At one point, she called for the woman to come help her.
