How to Make the Comments of Annoying Commenters Disappear from Your Screen

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 1:46 pm

I don’t like to ban people. I generally ban people only when they commit an egregious offense. I often get requests to ban people whom folks find annoying. But being annoying isn’t a bannable offense.

But you shouldn’t have to suffer the annoyance of seeing a comments section overrun by people who do nothing but aggravate you. Am I right?

Today, there’s a better way!

Beldar explained how to do it in this comment. An edited version of Beldar’s explanation appears below, correcting one minor error in his explanation.

Follow these instructions and the annoying commenters will disappear from your screen. Just hit the bookmark after accessing the page. It has the effect of refreshing the page while eliminating the annoying commenter.

(1) I can’t reprint the script here in these comments because it uses characters that confuse the readers’ browsers and that will make the script incomplete. So instead of printing it here in comments for people to cut and paste, here’s instead a link to a tiny simple ASCII text file called “patterico_blocker_script.txt” that anyone can right-click and select “save link as” to download and save the file to his/her own computer. Feel free to rename it if you like.

(2) Once downloaded and saved, open that file with any text editor. Since it has “.txt” as its extension, whatever your computer is set up to use as its default ASCII editor will likely open it when you double-click the file name. I use the old reliable Windows Notepad for this type of dirt-simple text-file editing; other programs might add formatting and stuff you don’t want or need unless you’re careful to specify ASCII.

(3) Look (or text-search) for “name1” and replace that with the screenname of the first commenter you wish to block. Extras don’t matter; you can leave “name4” in the script, for example, if you only want to block three commenters. But likewise, if you wish to block more than four, just start adding those names in that same part of the script, using the up-and-down symbol | as the separator.
(I’m not sure if this is case-sensitive and haven’t tested that; I just copied the commenters’ names from here and pasted them verbatim to replace “name1,” etc., one at a time.)

(4) When you’re done editing, re-save the text file on your own computer. Again highlight the whole text string as edited (CTRL+A), copy it to your clipboard (CTRL+C), and then go back to your browser window.

(5) Now you’re then going to create a new bookmark. The difference from bookmarks you usually create and use is that this isn’t a bookmark that tells your browser to go to some particular URL. Instead, it stays at the URL you’re already at, and simply runs the commands in the script on whatever webpage you currently have open.

Every popular browser has multiple different ways to create and edit bookmarks. It might be easier just to bookmark some random webpage the way you’re usually used to doing, and then to simply edit that one, than to try to create one from scratch.

But to create one from scratch, for me, using the Chrome browser, the easiest way was simply to open an empty browser tab, and type CTRL+D to open the small text box for new bookmarks. There will be a suggested title of “New tab”; ignore that. Instead, left-click on the “Edit” button so that a slightly bigger window will pop up with more options. I decided to name my new bookmark “Patterico+script” and I decided to save it in my “Bookmarks bar” (which I have enabled regularly), but not inside one of my folders (because I don’t want to have to open a bookmarks folder every time I use this new bookmark — which is quite a bit, after every page reload.) Below the “Name” text field is one for “URL.” Delete whatever Google’s suggested, and instead paste (CTRL+V) your edited text script into that tiny field-box, like this. Don’t worry that it spills over and can’t all be read, it won’t matter. Click the Save box at the bottom.

(6) Now every time you visit a page with comments at Patterico.com, you can tap that bookmark and it will execute the script, which tells your browser to redraw that page leaving out the text — but not the comment numbers or commenters’ names — from all the objectionable commenters you’ve blacklisted, like this.

Here’s what it looked like when I did it. Here’s before:

Before Script

And here’s after:

After Script

Glorious! Instead of having to read a misrepresentation of my post that I explicitly disclaimed in the post, I can just make that person go poof! I get the added satisfaction of seeing that his comments are there. I can just choose not to read them.

For those who would like a video demonstration of how to do this, Beldar has given us that as well, here. I thank him for his efforts, as well as Milhouse and felipe.

No more whining about commenters. Nuke them yourself. It works!

UPDATE: Beldar encourages me to note some subtleties about the script. First, it is not case-sensitive. But the easiest way to make it work is to simply copy the user’s screen name verbatim, as the instructions suggest. This will work even if that screen name contains embedded blanks and/or punctuation.

Do not simply paste the edited script into the browser’s main URL field. It seems as though that should be the same thing as clicking a bookmark with the script saved in the bookmark’s URL field. But that is not right. It has to be in a bookmark.

And please remember: the newly created bookmark must be clicked, causing the script to run, after every page re-load. For example, if you leave a comment on a page, when you hit “Submit Comment” that has the effect of re-loading the whole page. Any previously hidden comments will suddenly re-appear, until you click on the bookmark. I made this my top bookmark, since I will be using it often.

Finally, should you wish to see a comment by a blocked commenter, you can simply left-click the permalink for the comment (the date and time hyperlink to the right of the commenter’s screen name) to toggle back and forth between showing the comment and hiding it.

UPDATE x2: Original credit for creating the script appears to belong to Tanny O’Haley. Thanks very much to him. It was later promoted by Milhouse and felipe.

  5. Sad.

    DCSCA (797bc0) — 9/24/2017 @ 2:07 pm

No, not really. Everyone says the occasional clunker or incorrect thought. You, me, Patrick, everyone. But there are the occasional commenters who troll or regularly post inflammatory or obtuse things with no interest in moving the discussion forward. This isn’t Patrick ban hammering. This is merely giving you the option to ignore on a more-or-less permanent basis. The onus is on you to be sparing with this new found power.

    Bill H (383c5d)

  6. And I think this bears repeating: Patterico pays for this site, and has been trying for years to create a community for discussion.

I have learned a great deal here from people with whom I have disagreed in good faith. Look at aphrael, for example. Or Leviticus. Both of those individuals have a point of view to promote. Sometimes people are in bad moods and lash out—you, me, everyone. Again, different voices are important.

But some folks simply post to stir the pot or be vulgar or insulting. I find the latter to be straight up disrespectful of Patterico and his efforts, but mine is a minority opinion on that.

This is not a First Amendment issue. Nor is it a “if you can’t take the heat stay out of the kitchen” issue.

This has happened because of trolls who come here to cause trouble. Lie. Misrepresent. Basically, be trolls.

The goal is to drown out everyone else, just for lulz.

    This is nothing new.

So rather than trying to figure out whom to ban, Patterico provides this as a service, in hopes of promoting what used to be more common here: discussion and debate, instead of cheerleading and potty mouth disease.

It’s worth it, if it can recreate what used to be here at Patterico’s.

Thank you, Patterico, and Beldar, and felipe and milhouse.

    Simon Jester (c8876d)

  7. @6. Yes, really.

The wise move is to simply scroll by. Building walls isn’t a new found power– it’s as old as the Bible.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  8. Personally, I haven’t chosen to block anyone’s comments on grounds that I disagree with them. To the contrary, one of the reasons I’m so pleased by the script is that it lets me find and read opinions from a great many people with whom I disagree, and with whom I’d like to conduct a reasonable, civil discussion.

I’ve blocked a few commenters who are personally abusive to me or people I care about, on a repeated basis, and who in my judgment have demonstrated such intellectual dishonesty that it’s a waste of time to even try to read what they’ve written or engage them in discussion. I will give you an example of that kind of intellectual dishonesty: One such commenter in particular wrote here — during the very moments that I was posting about my 22-year-old daughter was watching flood waters rise at her mother’s (my ex’s) house in Meyerland during the worst of Hurricane Harvey — that his message to Texas, “from a long time coastal New Jersey resident,” was “‘swim for it.’” Now he pretends that he can read my mind, he can ignore everything that I write, and that he can score a point somehow with a YouTube link to the “see no evil” scene in Planet of the Apes.

I saw that link because I made a rare decision to actually un-block that comment, based on a reference to it by a later commenter. But now I can turn that comment, and that commenter, to the oblivion from my personal universe which his behavior deserves. And I get positive satisfaction from seeing all the comments he’s left that I will never have to read, unless it’s by choice.

Life’s too short for that kind of jerk. He’s not worth actively hating, and he’ll probably never understand that the opposite of love isn’t hate — it’s indifference. I am enjoying my calculated, indeed methodically and literally scripted, indifference to him since I got this gizmo up and running. So now life is better.

    Beldar (fa637a)

  9. @9. =yawn= Now he pretends that he can read my mind

    No. Just your comments.

Your porridge grows cold, Dr. Zeius.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  10. You can edit the bookmark in situ in the Bookmarks Bar to add or remove blockee(s). Put your cursor on the bookmark and right click. You’ll get a pop-up menu. Click Edit. You’ll get a pop-up window Edit bookmark. The URL line contains your script. Using your keyboard arrows scroll (back most likely) to the parentheses with the names and type in or erase what you want. Click Save.

PS. What was the minor error? I thought I did mine exactly the way Beldar said and it works fine. Or did I unconsciously ignore one of his instructions and did it my way out of habit?

    nk (dbc370)

  11. @ nk (#11): The minor error was in my description of the text that needed editing. The script uses “name1,” “name2,” etc. But I mis-described it as “user1,” “user2,” etc.

I agree that the “in situ” editing (perfect use of that phrase) is a nice thing to know; perhaps Patterico will add that to the list of pointers (I’d forgotten that one).

    Beldar (fa637a)

  12. Ah! I didn’t pay that no never-mind. User/name, I knew what you meant.

    nk (dbc370)

  16. The trolls out themselves by amping up their antics when they suspect someone is blocking them, and they hate it that a) they can’t get ban martyrdom and b) they can’t tell if they are being blocked or ignored.

For the record, ben burn and DCSCA, I have not ever been using the blocking script. I simply ignore you in the normal way. And yet each of you has assumed that I was, and you both immediately amped up commenting targeted at my comments. And that’s I how I know you are both trolling.

Now I also know that both of you are capable of not being trolls. If you actually want engagement you’ll change your behavior and if you won’t, well, you won’t annoy anyone anymore except those who are into that sort of thing.

    Frederick (a81afc)

  17. Comment 16 from you, DCSCA, perfect example.

    Rev.Hoagie® (6bbda7)

  19. @17. Not true, Freddo; never cared or assumed you were blocking or not. Your choice to engage; an if memory serves, we engaged in civil dialogue over out-of-context-Trump 9/11 quote a while back. But then, we agreed, to the chagrin of others.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  20. @DCSCA:Your choice to engage;

Yes, it is. The script is no different.

f memory serves, we engaged in civil dialogue over out-of-context-Trump 9/11 quote a while back. But then, we agreed, to the chagrin of others.

Exactly. There is not an echo chamber here. When you adjusted your approach, I immediately took note of it. And then when you’ve gone back to your usual approach, I’ve gone back to mine.

    Frederick (a81afc)

  21. @21. No, but there is one under construction-by some with glee. When you disagree, you disengage. Fine. Others build walls. Which speaks volumes of them. Beldar’s been out of sorts since our first encounter when his farcical infrastructure rant was successfully torpedoed many, many, moons ago. He’s never gotten over it. Dr. Zaius has forgotten how to have fun.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  22. @DCSCA:Others build walls.

It’s not a wall. You have to turn it on every time you want to use it. And the outcome–that you get ignored–is the same either way.

What is missing, with the script blocking, is your feeling that you’re getting under someone’s skin. That’s what the script takes away from you, not your ability to communicate with others here.

    Frederick (a81afc)

  23. Frederick, there is a whole history to DCSCA’s posts at Patterico’s. When he isn’t being a snarky troll, he is interesting. When he pulls his Commander McBragg act, he forgets many folks haven’t forgotten his bizarre “look at me” Zelig-like stories in past years. He finds it necessary to fight with people. He is an interesting voice when he doesn’t brag and doesn’t fight with other commenters.

    Simon Jester (d856de)

  24. @24. You’re confused w/Beldar, Simon. More peculiar is you obsession w/what our host spends on his blog. You’re either his banker-or his bookie.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  25. We’re gonna build a wall. A big, beautiful wall. It will be see-through, or not see-through, with the click of a button. Nobody can throw a sack of drugs on your head unless you choose to allow it. And there will be a door in the wall, for the good people — I’m sure there are a lot of them. But you can decide who the good ones are and who the bad hombres are.

    Patterico (115b1f)

  26. I would not block out DCSCDCSASCA because he has cool astronaut stories but he didn’t tell my daughter to swim in a hurricane otherwise I’d just Google the astronaut stories or miss out on a few.

  27. What is missing, with the script blocking, is your feeling that you’re getting under someone’s skin. That’s what the script takes away from you, not your ability to communicate with others here.

What’s missing is your ability to even know whether you are being seen by the people you are trolling.

I have already experienced the pleasure of seeing a post with several comments, and I can see one is from happyfeet and I don’t have to read it. Awesome.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  30. Hey, DCSCA? Didn’t you used to brag about your (and I quote) “fleet” of cars a couple of years ago?

If anyone likes to brag about buckage, it has been you. And it’s not just my opinion. It’s all on this blog.

Are you sure you want to play games? JD and the rest of us sure ridiculed your clearly fake stories repeatedly. Soccer at the US Embassy? Rocking throwing with INS at the border? Lunch with Von Braun? Counting Jews in Iran?

I would much rather you play nice, instead. When you aren’t a mental case, you make solid contributions.

    Simon Jester (c8876d)

  31. @AZ Bob:It would be interesting to see a box score of the people with the most blocks.

That is impossible, because people are doing the blocking at their own browser. You could certainly ask people who they are blocking.

    Frederick (a81afc)

  32. But, like good old Mr. Feet, you cannot help yourself. You are in the process of replying now, for instance.

    Simon Jester (c8876d)

  33. @26. LOLOLOLOL See, you made the Trumpters happy after all. That didn’t hurt too much– did it?

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  34. @27. And here I thought he’s been mad all these many, many, many moons after his ‘intellectually dishonest’ infrastructure rant was torpedoed.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  35. @9.Oh Dr. Zaius, the cherry to top that butterscotch sundae would be, of course, if her name is Sandy.

Lest you forget the 23 Texas reps who voted against aid for the Garden State.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  36. Pre-script: Navigating these comments was like listening to an ancient AM radio with a perforated speaker, during a thunderstorm, with a drunken baboon playing with the frequency and volume knobs. If you persisted and didn’t go insane, you could occasionally hear brief, coherent fragments of clear signal containing interesting music. Gritted teeth during, usually an urge to shower after.

Post-script: Same as above, until clicking the script bookmark, which is akin to suddenly switching from that AM radio to your favorite sound system, playing a reliable digital feed with wondrous music of diverse styles but frequent excellence. Urge during is to ponder, perhaps to reply, perhaps while enjoying a decent adult beverage.

It’s a customized signal-to-noise filter that spectacularly improves the former while dramatically limiting the latter.

happyfeet’s comments are precisely why I switched over to commenting on your “Jury Talks Back” side of things when I (rarely) had something to say. I was sick and tired of the vapid idiocy flooding the discussion. But now that I no longer have to see comments by happyfeet, DCSCA, or Ben burn, I’ll probably come back and comment again.

You three? Feel free to act all insulted and offended by the fact that I don’t like listening to inanities. Go ahead and pretend that your comments actually had anything substantial to offer. You’ll only be fooling yourselves.

    KRS One (987b85)

  47. I’d be interested in Beldar’s block list.

Mine is happyfeet, KRS One, and Mike K. I am happy to add to it.

I block people regularly on Twitter and I see this as similar. Banning has an effect on others but blocking affects only you. I do not want to miss good comments so I am currently leaving Ben burn, Sammy Finkelman, DCSCA, and others unblocked. I commonly scroll over their comments with barely a glance but I do not want to block them quite yet.

    Anyone else?

    Patterico (115b1f)

  48. Ideally there would be a script that both accesses the site and performs the blocking function, in a single click. But I have no idea how that would work.

    Patterico (115b1f)

  49. I like Mr. Finkleman’s comments a lot he’s a very sweet and gentle person and he reads the NYT so I don’t have to do the clicks

    happyfeet (28a91b)

  50. Patterico, I could see a Kickstarter campaign to fund a web artist to create the system you want. Who else would contribute?

    Simon Jester (c8876d)

  51. As mentioned to Ben on another thread, there is a difference between what you need to say as opposed to what you want to say. If we all said what we truly wanted to say we’d all be banned in a day. If you meander out of the lines, Mister P., usually lets you know. We’ve all done that from time to time. He’s been a good egg about that and over the years, has mostly encouraged a good mix of commentary — and kept it fun. Less so, of late; the tug from the Dark Side being strong.

I’ve been participating on this blog on and off now for a decade or so– even had a few comments lifted to a posting position. And been most decidely in the minority, often taking more flack from the dedicated, sometimes rabid Right when they’re wrong than the 8th AF did over Germany. It’s never been much of a bother. Even been banned a time or two in heated exchanges, but more importantly, even w/a scrolling function, there isn’t a single commenter I’ve ever felt the need to block, ‘ignore’ nor cheered the capability to do so.

    Not one.

Because the mix of views was often enlightening, usually engaging and always fun. And it’s just a blog. Sure, Mr. Feet is saucy seasoning for this stew; Haiku a tasty challenge to chew on and Beldar is, well, akin to spooning cold porridge and a bit of a ‘belch-dar’ to digest, but still a reasonable read, proofreading not withstanding. But unlike him– and a few others, I see no need to gleefully block others– and never will. That speaks more about the blockers than anything they could ever post to persuade through discussion and argument. It’s an element of frustration- or desperation; perhaps fear; maybe ego, but certainly a desire to preach call to a choir for a response in same and claim affirmation from all in an echo chamber.

‘Ignore-ance’ may bring bliss, but no matter how hard you pitch 1+1=11, it still tallies to 2.

Instructions and URL encoded script are near the bottom of this page.

    https://github.com/tannyo/bookmarklets/blob/master/README.md

One thing not mentioned is that the script actually creates a toggle of the comment. It leaves the commenter’s ID and date that you can tap or click which will open up the comment so you can view it. This last you to view a specific comment if you see it referenced elsewhere.

I join felipe in respectfully asking Patterico to revise his post above to give appropriate credit, and hope you’ll visit us in these comments — where it seems unlikely that your name will be blocked! — more regularly. And while providing that attribution & credit, he can easily thereby also more righteously and explicity comply with the very generous terms of the noncommercial license at the bottom of this page that you linked.

    DRJ (15874d)

  83. happyfeet,

The Magnitsky Act is an American law designed to prevent Russian officials from using the American banking system to protect or hide their funds. As such, it is primarily a national security law and partially a humanitarian action. It is not an expansion of government power over Americans, but you knew that.

    DRJ (15874d)

  84. The “Read something you may not agree with” capture is the meat of the OP. Props to the Burner getting something right.

The rest reads like a Jr High girls clique rubbing in an ostracize move. Posts 75 and 76 are nuts and a ch on the sundae.

    harkin (36810b)

  85. There once was a commenter named “happyfeet” with whom I engaged, who affected a silly manner and way of writing, but whom I found entirely tolerable and worthy of conversation. Something changed him, and either filled him with, or released a previously concealed hatefulness. It’s not the same kind of personal animosity and intentional rudeness that (I gather from DRJ’s quote above) DCSCA now admits to having to conceal regularly, the things he wants to say that he seems to know would cause him to be shunned by all civil society. Rather, hatefulfeet rarely directs his hate at other commenters here by name.

But then, DCSCA doesn’t write in baby-talk, just in bad cliches and unfortunately repetitive cultural references, in between his deliberately hateful jabs at other commenters here, and doesn’t seem to have the same compulsive obsessions with transsexuals and human excrement.

I see hatefulfeet’s comments on other media, e.g., Prof. Reynolds’ blog, where as best I can tell he gets little or no traction among the other commenters. The devoted Trumpkins there barely recognize him as one of their own — understandable since, for instance, his tranny-this and poopy-thats are now as often directed at Trump subordinates (e.g., Sessions) as at Democrats. I know this man is capable of civil (if whimsical) conversation, so it’s a shame that his inability to self-moderate his bad tendencies have destroyed or at least afflicted many of the personal relationships he’d been able to establish here. Frankly, I blame Trump; he grates upon, grinds down, and ultimately must overwhelm the innate decency of his marks, in order that they may continue to stick with him and remain ready to welcome the next con.

But that whole line of argument ultimate makes me feel like Jenny in “Forrest Gump,” railing about that b*st*rd Johnson and this damned war. The despoiling of the commenter once known to me as “happyfeet” by Trump just isn’t that big a deal for me, given how many other good people he’s converted into fleeced chumps by virtue of his misdirection of their formidable and righteous anger and dissatisfaction with the American political scene.

So I block them both, for different reasons; but I’ve never been fond of DCSCA, and have no hope or expectation that I’ll ever have grounds to un-block him on my own slightly tweaked version of Tanny’s excellent script.

Patterico asked, I think out of idle curiosity, whom else I have on my customized script, to which my reply is: No-one else (beyond Ben burn, happyfeet, and DCSCA) of much consequence at the moment.

    Beldar (fa637a)

  86. I’m tempted to say to Tanny, “I’ll be forever in your debt!”

But that of course is a promise never to make repayment — and if there were any way I could indeed make such, I would.

    Beldar (fa637a)

    felipe (b5e0f4)

  91. @ harkin (#87): I read plenty from you with which I disagree, and we occasionally engage with one another in reasonably civil discussion.

When you join the trolls in pretending that this is about blocking content, rather than offensive individuals, though, you are projecting things on to me, and others I know, very unfairly and contrary to our own rationale and explanations.

You don’t have to believe me when I say I’m open to ideas and assertions that I disagree with, including from people I don’t much like. But when you accuse me of lying about that, you do offend me. Not enough — yet — for me to decide that you’re not worth the effort of reading, given the offense you give. And now I have a tool to employ, when and if I’m no longer willing to invest the time in reading what you’ve written here. Regardless, you’re being spectacularly unfair to — and demonstrably inaccurate about — our host, who for years has paid for bandwidth for people to insult him with.

“Mean Girls” this ain’t — but you know that, don’t you?

    Beldar (fa637a)

  92. It is not an expansion of government power over Americans, but you knew that.

I’m not so sanguine DRJ. I can easily imagine the corrupt CIA fabricating a pretext what would put someone on the list who would then be compromised in a way that could severely damage the interests of an American business partner.

Given what we saw from the Obama administration – the politicization and weaponization of the intelligence community, the IRS, the DOJ, and so many other facets of the State, I think any weapon at hand that could be targeted at a political enemy, eventually will be.

And the chilling effect this may have on the ability of Americans to deal freely with foreign nationals and corporations is as yet undiscussed. And to my thinking this is yet another example of the encroachment of unfreedom.

this is America in the year of our Trump 2017

I agree with SarahW, happyfeet is on the money. We all have seen how the left feels no moral limit to the destruction of political *enemies* primarily since they consider political *opponents* enemies. Republicans are the enemy, as are conservatives and I suppose a whole list of others that do not include communists, socialists or even moslem terrorists. I would go as far as to say if the Dems win an election you had best change your registration to Democrat because they have a whole hell of a lot of pent up hate that will be unleashed by hook or by crook.

Sir, you mistake relief from affliction and its accompanying euphoria for meanness, and again, you do that by projecting intentions onto others that are inconsistent with their own statements regarding their intentions. Yes, “to [you]” that is how it seems, and I can’t argue with that. I search in your comments for things with which I can cheerfully agree, and that’s one such.

However, I can and do deny that you’re accurately describing my own mental state. I doubt that what you’re projecting accurately describes the mental state of many, if any, of the others who’re expressing approval and gratitude for this gizmo. After several such exchanges, one must be left to conclude that regardless of who’s right, the doubter is certainly being disrespectful and patronizing. And after many such episodes, one becomes even more grateful for and appreciative of the script.

i add color with a little packet of wyler’s cherry – the kind you would use for a water bottle – they suck by themselves but i have a ton of this in a box – they were super cheap at amazon i think it was, and they’re good for adding color

    then you can flavor it

    i always add a packet of coconut-pineapple Emergen-C

and maybe 4 ounces of apple cider vinegar (this really helps clarify the flavors to where their powdery provenance is less apparent)

sometimes if my juicer’s handy I’ll add some cucumber juice or some juiced ginger, but nothing that’ll punch up the calories in any meaningful way

Too much too fast causes unpleasant tummy trouble.

*It tastes good, a lot like sugar with the same level of sweetness per spoonful – with mild cooling effect in the mouth. It doesn’t lose its sweetness in heat.

  146. @ SarahW: Interesting re Carlos Danger. I don’t know any NY law or criminal procedure. Out of professional concern only, one hopes his lawyer concentrated as much on the stipulations regarding where he’d be confined, and in particular amongst which sort of prison population he’d be confined, as he did to the length of the confinement.

  147. Happyfeet is an acquired taste. I would also gather to say he is likely one of the 2-3 brightest posters here. Sadly the PT Barnum in his tranny show comments leave most confused and gasping for meaning (unless it happens to be something else blocking their air passages in their throat).

  148. @149 Carlos Danger and “length of confinement” … lol.

  149. Ingot: I have noticed that happyfeet has actually managed to train my neural network to ignore things surrounding the word ‘happy’ and ‘feet’. I actually blink down a paragraph on the mental assumption that I’m not missing anything.

I see happyfeet and it just makes me marvel that a fat little dancing penguin who is all about diversity, inclusiveness and acceptance can say such things. All without fingers too….

  150. @Beldar The Daily Mail hints that his counsel did their bit: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4918774/Inside-luxury-Pennsylvania-prison-Weiner-hopes-go.html

He’s going to ruin it though I think and sneak some internet somehow. Carlos lives for danger.

Anthony W. got…a cell block and a sentence of 21 mos which I have no idea if that will work out to anything less in real life.

Federal sentences, I think since the 1980s, or since crimes committed in the 1980s – are now real time. At the time Brett Kimberlin was sentenced they were actually one third of the stated length – that is someone was eligible for parole at that point.

Sentences can be reduced a little bit now for good behavior, but not very much.

Weiner did not really expect that.

    http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2017/09/25/weiner-sexting-sentencing

The crime is basicaly sending obscene material to aminor (or receiving it?) Weiner also gets three years of supervised release (parole?) after that and a fine of $10,000.

He must start serving his term by Nov. 6.

When on probation he has to register as a sex offender and get treatment for his compulsions.

He’s already done that and claimed this time he’s cured. I think they cakll it probabtion when somebody does not go to prison at all.

Trearment seems to be added to these things regardless of whether or not it is necessary (or whether it works!) Dennis Hastert had to get it too, although he probably didn’t do anything for 40 years.

    Sammy Finkelman (ff268d)

  152. Weiner’s lawyers argued that the girl did it on purpose to make money and help defeat Hillary Clinton, but the prosecution said that it didn’t matter if that was true.. She has said she wanted to find out if he was still doing that.
