Akal Takht’s directive for Sikhs: Stay indoors this Vaisakhi

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Amid ongoing coronavirus outbreak in Punjab, the SGPC appointed acting Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh has directed the Sikh community to hold symbolic celebrations for Vaisakhi this year. He has directed the Sikh masses to stay indoors and listen Gurbani Kirtan on TV while offering prayers at their homes.

The decision came following a meeting between Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh, Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh, Takht Sri Patna Sahib Jathedar Giani Ranjit Singh Gohar, Takht Sri Hazur Sahib Jathedar Giani Kulwant Singh and Takht Sri Damdama Sahib head priest Gurjant Singh via video conference.

During this meeting, the Jathedars realized that organising a large gathering at one place was impossible so Vaisakhi be celebrated symbolically by holding Sri Akhand Path or Sehaj Path.
