Report: Samsung Display to start mass-production of 34, 55 & 65" QD-OLED on Nov 30

Samsung Display's CEO has reportedly internally shared plans to mass-produce 55- and 65-inch QD-OLED panels for TVs and a 34-inch QD-OLED panel for monitors starting on November 30.

A fresh report from Edaily Korea claims that "full-scale mass production will start on November 30" of QD-OLED displays, a new type of OLED where blue OLEDs use quantum dot color conversion for red and green. - "QD Display will mass-produce and release 65-inch and 55-inch TVs and 34-inch monitors, and decide whether to increase production based on market reaction," the report quoted Samsung Display CEO Choi Joo-sun as having told employees internally. Also read: What is QD-OLED? Samsung details its new TV display technology FlatpanelsHD reported in November 2020 on Samsung's plans to launch a QD-OLED monitor in the 33-35-inch range. It would seem that Samsung is moving ahead with production plans, which means that we can probably expect to see the first QD-OLED monitor(s) in 2022. LG is currently selling a 32-inch OLED monitor built on a panel from Japan OLED (JOLED). Samsung Display's current production capacity of QD-OLED is 30,000 substrates and through MMG (Multi-Model Glass) production it can potentially produce 1 million QD-OLED TV panels per year. The report noted that yields remain low at about one-third but that they are improving at a steady rate.
