The ArtLab-Curb Center Fellowship provides up to $300, along with access to opportunities for professional development opportunities, to independent artists and scientists within Vanderbilt to produce a piece of work that will be shown at the April 2019 ArtLab Exhibition, Focal Point: Lights, Lasers, and Lenses.

We are seeking fellows who are GRADUATE STUDENTS, FACULTY, and STAFF within the Vanderbilt Community who are committed to science communication and social engagement that express or create a creative work that explores the intersection between art and science. Fellows will take part in a monthly meeting with the ArtLab director, Kendra H. Oliver, Ph.D. to discuss the progress of their work with the final piece ready to submit in by Mid-March 2019. Fellows are identified through a highly competitive open call for abstracts that can be found below.

This is the second year of ArtLab. Our first exhibition hosted in March 2018 was a huge success with over 50 participants and 14 artists taking part in the final exhibition. We are interested in art and science from all areas including biomedical engineering, psychology, medicine, computer science, and studio arts. Following the inaugural ArtLab exhibition, we decided to narrow the focus by inviting projects addressing the theme of “Focal point: lights, lasers, and lenses.” This includes pieces that explore our universe through a lens and the transformation of those images into tangible representations of multiple perceptions.
