A Cedar Rapids man is going to Washington DC to advocate for the blind alongside more than 500 people from all 50 states.

Jerad Nylin belongs to the Cedar Rapids chapter of the National Federation of the Blind. He's going to talk to members of Congress about legislative issues surrounding the blind.

"I'm excited to go and make a difference in the lives of blind individuals across the country. And we're going to change the expectations by meeting with them because nothing makes a statement other than 500+ blind people marching up and down Capitol Hill for three days," said Nylin.

The goal of the week-long Washington Seminar is to shed light on relevant civil rights issues, educational programs and services, rehabilitation of the blind for competitive employment, among other timely topics.
