My gmail account been hacked into!

Dear folks.

Some of you may have received an email from me seeking financial help as I am stranded in London. This is a scam, please dun reply at all.

I have reported to Google Mail and they are doing an investigation now. I hope to have my password reset. Please bear with me.

Look like I won’t be able to salvage my old email account.

Kindly note my new email address ‘danhuang7728@gmail.com’.

  1. Hi Dan,

I’m sorry to hear that your gmail account has been hacked into. I’m one of those who received that email (just received it several minutes ago). As I’ve received a similar email from a stranger before, I was shocked when I read the email. Huh! Dan sending this kind of email?

That prompted me to go into silverhair website to see if there are any reaction from other members on this.

It’s a relieve to know that the email was not from you. Hope Google Mail will update you on their investigation soon.

    Regards

    Norhayati

  2. Hi,

Look like I am not able to use my old account at ‘danzjoy@gmail.com’.

Admin, kindly note my new email at ‘danhuang7728@gmail.com’.

    Dan

  3. It is very easy for hackers to steal our hotmail, gmail yahoo etc accounts. I wil occasionally receive e-mail from the so called “admisntrator” of hotmail asking me to update my accounts with name, password etc with a warnnig that my account may be deleted/blocked if I do not update my info….this is one way our account can be stolen.

We just need to be very careful and smart when we receive mass mails from so called “friends” asking for assistance especially financial aids.

Scams comes in all sorts of way, there are even strangers asking for help to collect/receive money on their behalf and promising a fee for doing so. We have to ask ourselves where does one find so many frogs jumping on the street……scammers are hoping that the greedy and naive ones will fall for this and some will.

  4. Hi Danz,

I too received the scam email purportedly sent by you from London ?

Thanks for yr sms re: gmail account being hacked into. I had amended yr email add to the new one. Hope that the hacker can be traced and caught too.

  5. The scammer is stupid from hair to toe. If he had wanted SHCians to believe him he shd hv told us that Dan-H has won a gold for Sg at the YOG fencing, boxing or wrestling… The human ears are softer to juicy stories.

In the history of mankind many had been wronged, killed and buried for this reason before any jury cd sit. In this 7th month they are out to avenge so the guilty, do kneel and line the streets to confess and contrite, hehehee………

  6. Hi Dan,

Sorry to hear of your email being hacked. Think it’s best to forget about this guy & move on. Report him to the authorities. If anyone is to use his/her email to play along with this nut, he’ll be happy, and he can gather more info. It’s kind of scary to think that our emails/bank accounts on the internet are so vulnerable.

I’m receiving on a daily basis, all kinds of emails from wierd names & sometimes even familar email accounts, all asking for money or some personal data, but I simply delete them. I wonder if these people ever got what they want?

Maybe, as we speak, some hacker is even reading our post!

    Cheers, L.

  7. I received it too! In both my private email addresses! Does this mean there’s a chance of my account being hacked too someday by this very person i.e. if he’s not caught or his accomplices?

  8. Hello Dan,

Pleased to know that you are safe and well.

I too just received the same e-mail. I knew it is a scam so ignorged it then checked Silverhairs to see if others got the same scam mail.

I had recently got a mail to say a Brunei prince wants to deposit xxxmillions into my a/c for safe keeping and would pay me handsome interest for helping out. Deleted right away.

    Good nite.

    Geok Suan.

  9. Hi Everyone,

If anyone is thinking of playing along with the scammer, please don’t. I share with you a gentleman’s account of his curiosity.

Someone in KL did this b’cos he had a friend working in the bank that he held an A/C to check if the scammer really sends the Money. She did but the cheque would take a while to clear.

The day after she had sent her cheque, big amt, into this gentleman’s A/c,she called up CRYING that she’d forwarded $40,000/- more than she should have sent and her boss is after her for return of the 40K. She asked this gentleman for a credit of 40K.
Banker friend advised not to send any money to her cos she will cancel her check the next day.

    Too good to be true!

    Good nite.

    Geok Suan.

  10. Of cos must send money to the bugger. Ghost month so send him big notes all with the face of that bearded Mandarin wearing the big topee. Like that even if he dont (sic) die also will go bye bye…….

  11. Dan

Perhaps a year ago I encountered the same kind of email scam you have now experienced. I posted a thread on SHC forum advising everyone to ignore it. So, in essence, welcome to the club…hahaha.

  12. Hi Steven Chan, Tim, Ros, Geok Suan, Jonson, Daisy and Lydia,

Thanks for your understanding, I have no more access to my gmail account. The password was change and these hackers are having a heck of a time!

Please do not sent or response to this account at ‘danzjoy@gmail.com’. I have requested Google Team to terminate my account but have yet to receive any response.

Take note of my new gmail account at ‘danhuang7728@gmail.com’.

    Dan

  13. Hi Dan,

I have a positive viewpoint on your email account being hacked. This experience is valuable; and I am sure many SHCians would now be more careful.

What I am wondering is do you know what actually happened? Did you open an unsafe attachment or did you give away your email account password? How complicated was your pasword? Hope it wasn’t Joy’s name. Any idea if your entire address book was hyjacked?

    Terence Seah

  14. Hi Terence,

My undoing was because I was gullible. Actually I receive a request supposedly from Google Team to update my account. I fill in and even gave my password ‘lollipop’ away.

Yes, my entire address book was hijacked and hearing from some of my friend about my plight in London, I was desperate.

After many attempt writing to Google Team I manage to reset my password and even gain access to my account at ‘danzjoy’.

I hope this is the end to the nightmares and now I will have to be more prudent in giving my password away. My old email is now accessible but i will stick to using the new gmail account.

    Dan

  15. Hi Dan,

Finally your ordeal is over. I cannot help to make some comments.

This is not hacking. Hackers are an intelligent group of people and they do not hack individual accounts. This is not thrilling or challenging to them at all. What they normally do – they hack the FBI, eBay or Governmental websites.

What you experienced is hijacking of your personal account. This can be done easily by any thrill-seekers people like students, people who have nothing else to do or anyone who wish to prove something. Information is available on the internet how to go about it.

It’s always good to be careful when you read any emails whether from your so-call friends or popular websites such as Google, eBay or whatever. These emails may be an internet phishing scam. Just click on any hyperlinks and they may take you to a look-a-like sites asking for you to input your id and password to gain access. Your id and password will then be captured by the scammers. Most of them are out for thrill.

We are now in the informational age. It will be good if we expend some time to understand and know how internet works as it will be become part and parcel of our life. To avoid or refuse to learn about it may cause considerable financial loss or inconveniences to you or your acquaintances/friends etc.

In fact almost all the information is available on the internet. Just google it. For a start maybe we should learn about “how to read email headers”. At least you will understand whether the email originate from a legitimate sources or friends before you ever proceed to read a email requesting for help or some generous guys want to share 40% of his good fortune with you.

  16. Hi Steven-N #19,

Occassionally, me too recv SCAM mails. For the benefit of all SHCians and taking up your offer that we should learn “how to read email headers”, perhaps you can explain this. Below is the “FULL HEADERS” that I have copied and pasted here from one of the SCAM Emails received:

    Dan #18,
Since you now have excess to your old email account, suggest you clean-up or empty that account completely…just in case another hijack attempt is conducted.

NOTE: There is a one in a millionth chance that a scam email will be answered. So, with 6.4 billion earthings, this works out to be quite a lot of poor desperate souls…..so it is a pure maths of probability….that’s what all scammers are hoping for….. – DON’T LET THEM WIN!

  17. Hi Ivan and those who are interested to know more about email headers,

It will take a few pages to explain how to read email headers. To make it easier, here are a few websites which provide such information:

    http://www.emailaddressmanager.com/tips/header.html
    http://www.high-speed-internet-access-guide.com/articles/email-headers.html
    http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=29436
    http://www.pobox.com/headers.mhtml

    Happy reading.

  18. Hi Dan,

Eileen and I did receive the same email too but I told her not to reply and also that it was a scam. It’s good that this has sufficed so that all SHC members are aware and this is not the first time such emails have been in circulation. Rgds, Lisa O

  19. Thanks Lisa and Eileen for your understanding. I finally was able to reset my password and have access to ‘danzjoy’ but now will only use ‘danhuang7728@gmail.com’.

    Hello,
How are you doing? Hope all is well with you and family, I know this might be a surprise to you but I am sorry I didn’t inform you about my traveling to London for a Seminar.I need a favor from you because I misplaced my wallet on my way to the hotel, my money and other valuables are gone including my credit cards. I will like you to assist me with an urgent loan of $2000 to sort-out my hotel bills and get myself back home. This is one favor I will always show gratitude throughout my lifetime.
I will appreciate whatever you can afford to help me with and I promise to refund the money as soon as I return home. Please do this for me and I will be grateful. Let me know if you can help me out so I can send you the details for making a transfer through Money Gram Transfer .
I look forward to hearing from you.
    Regards,
    Lersl

  21. Vivien Ler:
If you are reading this, please have the cow-sense to at least change your current password of your yahoo email account and STOP using this same yahoo account for a while. This is to prevent whoever is using/accessing your yahoo account to get more info/email etc etc and please don’t mass-emailing everybody from this account again…..only making matters worst!!!

    Dear All

I did NOT send the email ‘Please help’. Do not respond to that email.

My email was compromised, that is, it has been hacked into. Somebody posed as me and sent ‘Please help’. I am in Singapore and am well.

I am really sorry about this but I do not know how my email was hacked into as I took the normal precautions.

    Regards,
    Vivien

  22. And 1 last word………..many ppl like to join/click on “invitations” EMAILS from many scam social networks, telling you so-and-so (whose name is known to you) has invited you to join his/her network etc etc etc……

THAT’S HOW ALL THESE HIJACKING STARTS ….. so please don’t say you took normal pre-cautions ……

  23. Too good to be true, I just won GBP $1,000,000! Wat currency is this? I can retire now and devote more time for SHC, come and celibate with me! Should I go ahead to claim, please tell me.

  24. Dan, it is stated in the subject matter that your email id has won 1 million pounds. Hahahahaha… Many people will be curious and reply for sure. THEN, they’ll ask for deposit as admin fees….

For no rhyme or reason why should anyone give 1 million pounds? Sounds very fishy don’t you agree?

    Ros

  25. Ahhh if you do not answer, then one day they will tell you that since you did not reponse, they had already cashed out the money and put in a box to be sent to you…..tnen they wait for you to bite the ‘bait’ ….. aiyo where go so many frogs jumping on the road one….if so I have many of us would have been millionaires many times over liao.

Some of us may have received e-mail saying that soemone sharing our same surname had died with no heir and there are MILLLIONS of dollars to be ‘inherited’……..the scammers are hoping for just 1 silly ‘fish’ or blur sotong to bite the ‘bait’ and they will have you for dinner hahahahaha

Please note this is the way your identity can be stolen and used for illegal means … so be very careful please. Even if you receive request from yahoo, hotmail etc asking you to update your info else yuor account will be clsoed, please DO NOT Fall for it.

  26. Hi Dan,

Do you believe money will drop from heaven? ;)

Sometime my hand will be a bit itchy. So I will google for any police officer in the CAD and give the particular to the scammers including their name/address/phone for the scammers to contact him or her.

I am just curious what had happen? Unfortunately I do not have any friends to find out for me. :)

  27. Dear All,
Further to post #26 above, this is what I meant by “invitations” EMAILS. I am quite sure that our Dennis Wee or Thomas Loh or Sam Goh or some other SHCians did not sent me this type of emails:

  28. “Hi Dan, Do you believe money will drop from heaven?” Of cos he does after catching a mermaid falling from the sky. The problem is, he is already so full of Joy that he doesnt know what to do with the half-fish which he cant chop and sell at the market bcos it’s also a half-woman…..and Geylang wont accept the services of a half-fish.

  32. Hi Dan #35,

Go for it. It’s worth it. $10.5m.
Let all of know too. I am sure you will build a beautiful club house for us on Pulau Ubin.

  33. Hi Terence,

Sure, wait for the good news!

Should I start a new post ‘How will I spend $10.5m taking the Silverhairs Club into consideration. Or what will I splurge on, a football club or a Club house in Johore Bahru?

    Dan

  34. Dan-H, my envy for you is simmering into a jealousy. How come you have so many unheralded rich friends all over the world, with the latest from Burkina blowing his vuvuzela?

I hv written to this Karim character. Told him that if he isnt going to give me the cream of his wealth, will curry him.

    ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????

  35. Hi Dan,

Can you accumulate all your millions and when the URA has available land in the town area can you bid for it and build a country club for the silver hairs?

Having a country club in the town will be more accessible and convenience than Pulau Ubin although it will cost much more. It will help to create more bonding amongst us and your generosity will not gone unnoticed. ;)
