Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Yes that's it!! An Ocean and a Continent away!!
I feel lucky!! While a blade doesn't have to be centered on a production knife IMO, this one is dead center. The pull is a good 7 1/2 to 8 - my fave, and the snaps are nice and enthusiastic! And, the grinds and finishes are just right!!
From my point of view, Wright's would do well to offer a "Grade "A" line!!

Shows what they can do with a little encouragement Charlie :) Nice to see that there are still a few Sheffield cutlers who can turn out a decent knife :)

Indeed. I'll be taking mine out for fish and chips tomorrow. I want to see how the "real lamb foot" etching holds up to a bit of patina. :)

I'd assumed they were all the same, but then I imagine they're probably struck in by hand

I have to confess my ignorance here, Jack; I don't think I know the process by which a nail nick is added to a blade.

There are typically two choices to cutting in a nail nick. It looks like A.Wright "punches" them in with a nail-nick shaped die.
I just looked at a couple of GECs, and they are cut in with a wheel shaped cutter that is flat on one side. The grind/cut lines follow the arc of the nick.
On the Wrights, the lines dive straight into the nick, as if it were punched in.

Sorry for my absence due to being asleep! :D Thanks Charlie :) Stan Shaw punches in his nail-nicks by hand - takes a second. I've been trying to find a photo of his punch, but the only one I have, it's in his hand, and you can't see it. Wright's may add them in the same way, but I think it more likely they use a similar tool, but press the nick in with one of the old presses. I've never actually seen any evidence of that in the press room, but the nicks look too deep to have been struck by hand - perhaps they just have a big hammer! :D

Fantastic! :D Yeah, I'll be interested to see that myself, though I reckon that, so long as you wipe the blade after, that polish will stand up to at least one serving of fish and chips! :D

Hey, Jack.......how ya doin', fella..? :) Jack Black Jack Black

Just about to call you for a chat but can't find your number, must've lost it, doh.

Was going to ask you - did the Native (that Oeser, for example, is so good at) come from the Lambsfoot......?

I would agree if it were just one serving of fish and chips and a wipe down. If things go the usual way while visiting with friends over lunch, I'll be cutting up lemons and dripping the malt vinegar on the blade. Not forcing a patina, per se, but getting one started in a playful way.

Due to unforeseen automotive expenses, this Guardian's Lambfoot will be my last knife purchase for a while. The timing is great that I have such a special knife to focus my fickle eye upon. :D:thumbsup:

Well at last I am able to show my fellow Guardians part of my package from Jack. I received it on Thursday and on Friday between work and a short trip for the weekend I didn't even have time to post what I was totin yesterday!;) Which just happened to be a Midnight Special! :D Let me just say that I am extremely happy with these very special knives. Thank you Jack for all your efforts in this project! Special thanks to the cutlers at A. Wright and Son for showing the world exactly what they are capable of producing. I am proud to be able to drop one of these in my pocket! :D

I'll try and give you a ring tomorrow Paul :) Good, thanks my friend, just had to do some work today :( That's a nice-looking pattern, and I'd be interested to know how it came about. I'm not aware of any Lambsfoot connection, but who knows, it certainly looks like a great user, and I'd love to learn more about it

Go for it r8shell, it'll be interesting to see how the patina progresses :)

Guardian fish and chips 1.jpg
Fish & Chips: Texas by way of Louisiana style: Tabasco sauce, horseradish, and tartar sauce mixed into a "Remoulade"
leftovers dabbed onto knife blade while finishing one's beer gives a good start to a patina.
