Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Thanks Jack  The problem is the Indian Government's export ban on sambar stag, British stag just isn't of the same quality, our climate is too damp :( That's sambar on my Lambsfoot above though ;)

Just about to hit the hay here, and I'll be away in Sheffield until Sunday, but I'll have this Lambsfoot with me

have a good trip, safe travels!

so there seems to be two sizes that lambfoots are available in, overall length of 6.25/6.5 (depending on ruler) and 7? is that correct? or has any one seen or handled bigger ones?

This arrived today, along with an ettrick pattern with rosewood scales. The ebony scales are very smooth and look quite a bit nicer in person than in the photo. There is also some figuring on the other side. The junction between the bolster and scales is clean, with no gaps. Altogether it's very pleasing.

Sorry, I don't know why I missed this. But yes, as far as I know there are two (maybe even 3?) available sizes, but not necessarily in every cover option. I do know there is a larger and a regular size available from Wright's at least. Jack can probably clarify further when he gets back from his trip to Sheffield.

Now that is a very handsome lambsfoot, I love those ebony covers. Very sharp indeed! Well done!

I've just finished working my way through Jack's visit to Arthur Wright's thread https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/visiting-arthur-wright-son-pics.1481181/
It's quite rare when you think about it to be able to buy something that is still being made using the materials, methods and equipment that were used a century or two ago. And being done in the same environment.
Do you think Arthur Wright's would be open to producing a limited run as a Guardians of the Lambsfoot special, perhaps with a J. Howarth tang stamp. And if so, would enough of us be willing to buy them?

Wright's do three sizes Jack, and I'm sure there are other variations from other manufacturers. I'll try to find time to measure a few later (though the measurements may be given on Wright's site)

That looks really nice, congratulations :)

Sadly, Wright's are the last of the Sheffield manufacturers producing knives with carbon steel blades :(

The question of a 'special' has come up before, and I had hoped to set up a 'group' to discuss it privately and without violating forum rules. Unfortunately, the recent software changes saw the end of the 'groups' option. I've raised the matter in the Technical sub-forum without success. I don't think this is a subject that can be really discussed here for the moment, I certainly don't want this thread turning into one of the 'lolly scramble' threads I think we now see too much of here. However, if Wright's are willing to do something for us at some point, I'll be sure to let people know, even if I have to do it by PM

My trip to Sheffield was mainly related to going hiking in the countryside near Sheffield, but I did pass the Wright's factory yesterday afternoon, when it was closed. I'll try to get over to see them soon

I hope some of you will remember Arthur, the Right Lamb Foot that Greg very kindly gifted me. I took him over to Sheffield with me, and then out to the Peak District National Park, part of which is inside the city boundary of Sheffield.

We found this rather odd 'arrangement' of a vintage tractor and some plastic sheep outside a nearby pub! :D

My trusty Buffalo Horn AW Lambsfoot out on the moors :)

Hope everyone is well and having a great Sunday

Jack

Thanks to you and Arthur for bringing us along, Jack! Looks like you got some fine weather for your hike!!

Thanks a lot Charlie, the weather was considerably better than the weather forecast had suggested :) Some of my pics look a little dark, simply because the sun was so bright! :D

Here's my gleaming Sunday Lambsfoot! ;)

Okay! Now I understand:rolleyes: It is an odd sight to find just outside a pub for no apparent reason?

It certainly is! It's sort of in farming country, but there are plenty of REAL sheep around, and plenty of working old tractors too! Quite bizarre really  :D

looks like a great time!!! do you mean 6.25, 6.5 and 7? I have some more due me just got the tracking no so i cant wait to compare.

Broken down tractors and plastic sheep? To that I say 'Baaa humbug'.:D

Jack, I do think a group could work through email. I'm down for that.

Today. Found some HP while on vacation (aka holiday to you blokes across the pond;)). We tend to call this stuff steak sauce over here, somewhat ironically so since it is best left for meatloaf, hamburgers, fries & etc, never on a good steak.

LOL! :D

Thanks for your enthusiasm Tom

Good find, Herder's lad was quite taken with HP :) I don't put it on anything, and certainly wouldn't put it on steak!

I took a couple of pics of my Lambsfoot outside the old Henderson's Relish factory while visiting Sheffield, but sadly, as often happens, the knife was out of focus :(

Here they are seperately! ;) :D
