The National Hurricane Center reports that Tropical Depression 11 strengthened into Tropical Storm Josephine on Thursday, becoming the 10th named storm of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season.
As of Wednesday morning, the storm is located 975 miles east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands. It's moving toward the west-northwest near 15 mph and is expected to turn toward the northwest late this weekend or early next week.
Currently, there are no coastal watches or warning in effect related to the storm.
Josephine is officially the earliest J-named storm on record. The current record is Jose, which developed on Aug. 22, 2005. It's the latest development in what NOAA refers to as an "extremely active" hurricane season.
