The music world is mourning the loss of Torrie Zito, a pianist and arranger whose work is heard on albums of greats like Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra and Liza Minnelli.
Funeral services for the 76-year-old musician are planned for Tuesday afternoon at the Campbell Funeral Chapel on Manhattan’s East Side.
He died last week of emphysema.
The Utica, N.Y., native started his career as a bebop jazz pianist, but soon worked with swing musicians like Bennett and Sinatra.
Zito’s talent is part of Bennett’s latest album, “A Swingin’ Christmas.” It was nominated for a Grammy Award.
Zito also worked with Sinead O’Connor, Clay Aiken and John Lennon. He wrote the string orchestrations for Lennon’s hit song “Imagine.”
