Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Found this on my doorstep after coming home on this dreary, rainy day

View attachment 809834

This is my first Lambsfoot, so generously gifted to my by WhittlinAway.
This is also my first knife with wood covers, and I'm already enjoying this immensely.

While quite different, this has some of the same attributes that kept a Sodbuster in my pocket for so many years, yet with a much more useful tip. I have little use for belly on a knife and this one seems extremely versatile. Yes, I think I'm going to like this one a lot.
Greg, thank you so much my friend. The generosity on this forum never ceases to humble and amaze me
Welcome to the Guardians! That’s a beautiful example. Well done Greg!

Wow! That was fast. I'm glad it arrived safely and that you're enjoying it. :)
I know! I saw the package and thought that surely couldn't be the lambsfoot already, that traveled a long way in a short amount of time. The postal service has really been on the ball lately, and I'm not complaining
Thanks again!

Last night my wife and I enjoyed a holiday concert performed by the brass and percussion sections of the San Francisco Symphony. My fanciest, most festive Lambsfoot came along.

Very classy, Greg!:cool::thumbsup: I think the Guardians Lambsfoot model is quite versatile, looking at home in concert halls, shopping malls, and tenement walls.

I love to see personalised Xmas tree ornaments like that GT :) Keep the pics coming my friend :)
...
Thanks, Jack. I probably have a dozen more holiday photos I can post in the next 2-3 weeks.

Once again this went with me today. I have to give Jack Black Jack Black credit - before he posted these knives I was not very interested in this pattern. But after seeing a few of them, curiosity led me to get this one. It has become one of my favorite patterns.

Very dignified, lambertiana!:thumbsup: I think my next lambsfoot model should be classic ebony. ;)

Fellow Guardians,

Below--and in the next post, because of post length limitations--is a tentative indexing of the first ten fifteen pages of this thread.

I didn't format it manually. Instead I wrote some computer software that takes a list of post numbers and tags indicating their content and then outputs an index formatted so that the forum software can read it. For example, post #47 shows up in the index three times below because it is tagged as (1) discussing the lambsfoot name, (2) referencing another thread, and (3) having an example of an Abram Brooksbank lambsfoot.

This means that it's easy for me to change how the index is formatted. For example, I can already tell that we'll probably need to truncate the list of A. Wright examples by the time the index is complete since they are so popular. Perhaps I'll try to maximize the number of different members whose examples appear in the index. If you have ideas on that or any other improvements or alternatives for the index formatting, please PM me.

More importantly, it means that it's easy for anyone to contribute to the indexing effort. You don't need to worry about formatting links or owning a section. You don't even need to worry about running my software. All you need to do is volunteer to review a few pages of the thread and list the tags that go with the posts that should be included in the index. Send those to me in a PM, and I'll include them in the index. Once you get the hang of it, it's a quick and fun way to review old posts.

If you are interested in helping me make the index, please PM me, or VM me with an email address I can use to contact you, and I'll give you detailed instructions and assign you a few pages to get started on. If you enjoy it and have more time, I'll happily give you more. :)

Thanks for your support of this project. I'm excited to see how it looks once we have all of the pages indexed.

Greg

I'm thirty or so pages in, from the start of this thread, as well as about thirty or so pages of the latest. I have noticed a number of photographs lost to PhoneyBucket near the beginning. Perhaps an appeal to some of those contributors could be made. At least one of the contributors is now banned, but most of the names are familiar to me, and I've only been around for five months. :)

Picked this TEW up for just under $27. My first. Blade is 3" from tip to bolster. 4 1/8" closed. The blade etch is faded but you can make it out at the correct angle. It's used but nice and tight. Im not sure if its carbon or stainless, I'll find out tomorrow. I like the long swedge and the taper to a thin tip. I'm looking forward to using and deciding how well I like a lambsfoot.

Rob, your TEW is splendid!!:cool::cool::thumbsup:
Ron, looking forward to seeing your righteous new Wright examples!! ;):thumbsup:
Long work days, short nights, and now snow to shovel - cramping my style on The Porch!
I'll make time to post another seasonal lambsfoot photo and then head to bed an hour (or two) after my target bedtime.

How did the repair turn out? I have an old scout knife that was damaged (sent back with my uncle's effects), that I have been thinking of doing an epoxy repair on, along the same lines (can't decide if I want to keep it as it was when he had it, or to do the repair).

I'm not very arty, and it was my first use of epoxy in this way, so I was worried about the glue running all over the place. I didn't want to actually disguise the repair in this case, but it proved easier than I had thought. Initially, the epoxy was clear, but over the past couple of years (maybe more), it's darkened to a brownish colour. I'm quite happy with it, but there's no doubt that @ADEE is better at these repairs than me, his repairs of MOP, horn, and bone using dyed (and sometimes textured) epoxy can be hard to spot. I think he's just using inexpensive standard epoxy

I'm looking forward to putting it through its paces tomorrow. Lots a cardboard duty at work and maybe even a salami :D

Have fun! :D

Thanks, Jack. I probably have a dozen more holiday photos I can post in the next 2-3 weeks.

Absolutely fantastic work Greg, thank you so much for all your efforts and dedication. I'm happy to help in whatever way I can my friend :)

It's annoying isn't it Michael? :( I ran an appeal at the time of the PB crisis, offering a giveaway as an incentive. Many Guardians valiantly rose to the challenge, but of course, in the case, of a banned member, their posts can't be fixed, and in a few other cases, the posters are infrequent visitors to this thread, @smiling-knife for example, and may not be aware of the problem. I hope we can eventually get most of the pics back up

I've indexed beyond what is shown in that example, but the limit of 10,000 characters per post is thwarting me a bit. Each of those links takes a lot of characters behind the scenes. I have an idea that should help, but I need to code it up. Once I've done that and can have a better idea of how much of the index can go on any page, I'll reserve a few posts for the starting official location of the index and put up what I've got so that people can use it.

I suspect another contributing factor is that it is hard for a member to identify all of their posts with broken photos. I have an idea that may help, though.

While I didn't include it in the sample index I showed earlier, I have been indexing all posts having broken photo links in their original content (as opposed to quoted material; I don't know how easy those are to fix if the original is fixed with an upload). Once all of the posts have been indexed, I'll be able to tell any member who wishes to fix their photos exactly which of their posts are affected. Hopefully that'll make the task less daunting.

Thanks Greg :) The character limit is very frustrating :( It sounds as if you are doing a great job my friend

That's a good-looking old Lambsfoot, Jack! That bone has an interesting look. Do I see some sawcut markings showing up underneath the jigging?

Thanks Barrett :) Yes, I think so, such a shame Sheffield seems to have largely lost its ability to produce jigged bone of this quality. I really don't remember seeing much of it as a kid at all - horn, wood, stag, various synthetics, even some ivory, but not bone - not on pocket-knives anyway. Maybe it just went out of fashion? :(

I'm pocketing my Guardians Lambsfoot for the weekend :) Hope everyone has a good one

Weather has turned cold here, and it's been a long week, so intending to start Saturday off with a hearty breakfast, and a slow read through the papers ;)

Im a-waiting for my Lambs-foot to come over the waters, it's on it's way as we speak- so I just cannot wait!
I thought That Lambs-foot was a real interesting Knife Jack- and no other thank you my friend should own.
I have been searching the big site for older Sheffield's of late!
