NWS says weekend front expected to bring 'kind of' fall-like weather to Treasure Coast

Get your pumpkin spice coffee, candles and lattes ready, a drop in temperature is expected next week on the Treasure Coast, just in time for fall.

A weather system moving into the area over the weekend could bring a dip of at least 10 degrees next week, National Weather Service meteorologists said Thursday.

Projected highs in the mid 80s and lows in the mid-to-low 70s are expected next week, as Tuesday marks the beginning of autumn. It is the autumnal equinox, when the sun is exactly above the equator and day and night are of equal length.

Tim Sedlock said the summer-like low 90s and upper 80s currently felt across Indian River, St. Lucie and Martin counties will persist into the weekend.

Friday is forecast to have a heat index of 102 degrees and real temperature high of 91 with a 60 percent chance of rain and thunder.

"We will have a front that moves into East Central Florida on Friday," said weather service Meteorologist Tim Sedlock.

Jumping into next week, by Wednesday the high will be 85 with a 40 percent chance of rain. It continues all week, with highs in the low-to-mid 80s.

Sedlock said weekend rain chances will give way to what he called "below-normal chances" for rain through Thursday.

The front will be accompanied by an upper-level disturbance that will keep temperatures somewhat lower through most of next week beginning Monday.

"As fall tries to make its presence known, the forecast is in line with kind of a fall-type pattern," Sedlock said.
