I-95 Traffic | I-95 Construction | Fredericksburg Virginia | I-95 Exit Guide

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) warns Interstate 95 travelers that multiple work zones are scheduled this week in the Fredericksburg region, which will cause major overnight delays.

Both I-95 northbound and southbound will be reduced to one lane near various interchanges for construction to improve travel on the interstate.

Starting at 10:00 p.m., only one lane of I-95 northbound will be open near the existing American Legion Road overpass, at mile marker 138, which is between exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) and exit 140 (Courthouse Road) in Stafford County. Between midnight and 3:00 a.m., crews will stop all I-95 northbound traffic up to 30 minutes at a time to continue bridge demolition as part of the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.

The overpass is being replaced to accommodate construction of two reversible high occupancy toll lanes in the I-95 median. Express lanes are being extended from its southern terminus point at exit 143 (Route 610) to the vicinity of exit 133 (Route 17).

I-95 northbound will also be reduced to one lane near exit 143 to exit 148 (Quantico) to allow crews with the same project to lift and install bridge beams for the future access point to the express lanes from Russell Road.

To safely complete the work, the express lanes facility will also close at exit 150 (Joplin Road) in Prince William County at 10:00 p.m. and all southbound express lanes traffic will be detoured to the general purpose lanes until 4:00 a.m.

Northbound travelers with destinations outside of the Fredericksburg area should consider using exit 104/Route 207 in Caroline County to Route 301 to avoid the I-95 work zones.
