Nighttime lane closures on Business 40 will take place Wednesday and Thursday so that contractors can finish removing the Fourth Street bridge, the N.C. Department of Transportation said.
The state had earlier scheduled the closure for Monday and Tuesday this week, but rain forced a postponement.
Most of the Fourth Street bridge, including the part directly over the roadway, was taken down March 9-11. There are remaining sections on the shoulders of Business 40 that must also be removed.
The new schedule calls for closing the left lane of westbound Business 40 as it approaches Peters Creek Parkway starting at 9 p.m. this evening. At 10 p.m. all lanes will close and traffic will be diverted onto Peters Creek Parkway toward the detour route. The road will reopen by 6 a.m. Thursday.
Then on Thursday, the eastbound lanes will close in a similar manner from the Cloverdale Avenue exit to Peters Creek Parkway. At 9 p.m. the left lane of Business 40 will close eastbound, followed by all lanes at 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. Friday morning.
