Inkie Piece Replaces Banksy’s Grim Reaper on Thekla’s Hull [Video]

Last month, Banksy‘s ‘Grim Reaper’ was removed from the good ship Thekla’s hull during a rare dry-dock this summer. After a decade of being exposed to the harsh harbour elements, the piece is set to reside safely in the M Shed, on longterm loan from the good folk at DHP.

Following the removal, team Thekla have commissioned a new piece, this time by Bristol-born, now London-based, artist Inkie as part of a plan to continue supporting street art in the city. One of Bristol’s original graffiti artists, Inkie was responsible for curating the hugely successful ‘See No Evil’ exhibition on Nelson Street, Europe’s largest street art event.

Thekla’s Pat Somers said:

After taking the Banksy off to be restored, we thought it was only right to have something in its place, and what better than an original Inkie?

But it doesn’t end there. Every few months, Thekla will invite an different artist to come and paint a new piece onto the panel, turning the ship into an ever-changing exhibition space.

The public can look forward to enjoying the piece upon the venue’s mooring and re-opening on Thursday 18th September. Roll on Thekla’s return.
