CAIRO

Two Egyptian army soldiers were killed on Thursday in an attack on a military patrol in the Suez Canal province of Ismailia, security and medical sources told Anadolu Agency.

Gunmen opened fire at the mobile military convoy on Ismailia-port Said desert road and fled the scene, the sources added.

The attack left two soldiers dead, one officer with a gunshot in the chest and one soldier with a gunshot to the head, and some others wounded said the sources.

The wounded are said to be in critical condition.

There was no immediate confirmation from the Egyptian army regarding the deadly attack.

Egypt has been in the grip of violence since the military ousted Mohamed Morsi, Egypt's first democratically elected president, on July 3 following mass protests against him. Hundreds of people have been killed and wounded by security forces countrywide since.

Scores of police and army forces have also been targeted in attacks on their facilities and security checkpoints.
