New York City Makes Push To Clean Streets Of Mentally Ill

New York City is pushing to clean the city's streets of dangerously mentally ill people. The city has even put out a warrant list of 25 individuals to be on the look out for.

This new push is in response to a couple of fatal subway shoves from December, which allegedly involved mentally ill individuals, according to the New York Post.

"Recently, at the request of the Health Department, the NYPD attempted to locate individuals required to receive mental health treatment. None are wanted criminals," said Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne, the NYPD's chief spokesman.

The individuals on the list were supposed to receiver court-ordered treatment, Myfoxny.com reports. If found, the individuals will be taken to a hospital instead of jail to receive their mental health treatment.

The Health Department released this statement: "All of these patients are receiving treatment for mental health conditions. If they do not receive sustained treatment... they could pose some risk to themselves, family members or others."
