Man who shoots own leg gets 15 years in prison

A federal judge on Monday sentenced a convicted felon from Spokane to 15 years in prison after he shot himself in the leg, which led his later conviction for a felon in possession of a firearm. U.S. District Judge Thomas Rice sentenced Byron C. Prince, 49, to 180 months in prison. The sentence was enhanced because Rice had earlier declared Prince an “armed career criminal” based on his previous convictions, according to a court records. A jury convicted Prince in April based upon his arrest on June 21, 2011, when Prince shot himself in the leg with a .22 caliber pistol during an argument. Following the shooting, Spokane Police searched Prince’s car and found the .22 caliber pistol.
