Behavior Services of the Rockies in Lafayette has settled a lawsuit to provide additional services to a 4-year-old autistic boy and interpreter services to his deaf mother, the Colorado Cross-Disability Coalition said Friday.

The CCDC filed the lawsuit in March on behalf of Peter and Kirstin Kurlander, whose son Jax received services at BSOTR.

CCDC also helped settle a lawsuit last week in which Rose Medical Center in Denver changed its procedures to aid deaf patients during emergency visits. That lawsuit was filed last year by two deaf men.

“We are very pleased that Behavior Services of the Rockies will provide Jax with additional services and effective communication so that (we) can be active participants in the ongoing therapy needs of our son,” said Kirstin Kurlander in a statement announcing the settlement.

Officials at BSOTR, which specializes in therapy for the autistic and developmentally disabled, said in the statement they are excited to resume services for Jax and his family.
