Jacksonville evidence tech sentenced to prison for assaulting girl

A former Jacksonville police officer who had pleaded guilty to sexual battery is serving a 3½-year sentence in Florida state prison.

Donald L. Silcott, 48, was charged with multiple sex offenses in August 2009. Several of the charges were abandoned as Silcott pleaded guilty to a single count of sexual battery last December.

Circuit Judge Mark Hulsey sentenced Silcott Monday. The sentencing order calls for 3½ years of prison time followed by two years of intensive probation and nine years of sex-offender probation. He's also prohibited from having contact with children and viewing pornography.

Silcott was an evidence technician for the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office with 19 years of experience.

He sexually assaulted a teenage girl at his Jacksonville home while his children were sleeping. Authorities were contacted when the girl was located on an Orange Park doorstep crying and holding a picture of Silcott.
