Southern Family Markets was created in May 2005 when C&S bought 104 stores from Bruno's then-parent company, Bi-Lo LLC, just months after Keene, N.H.-based C&S acquired Bruno's Birmingham distribution center.
Since then, the number of stores operated by Southern Family Markets has steadily declined. It closed all six of its Birmingham area stores in 2007.
"I am pleased that we were able to come to an agreement with Southern Family that not only preserves jobs at our store locations but also delivers more value to our creditors than other potential outcomes would," Jim Grady, chief restructuring officer for Bruno's, said in a statement released late Thursday.
