Portland teen charged with attempted murder in Gresham gang shooting

A 15-year-old Portland boy has been charged with attempted murder in connection with the Sunday evening gang shooting that wounded a 23-year-old man.

Gresham police responded to a shooting at Southeast 175th Avenue and Stark Street around 8:40 p.m. Umberto Velasco-Arango, who was shot in the torso, is expected to recover from his injuries, said Lt. Claudio Grandjean, a Gresham Police Department spokesman.

Officers searching the area near the shooting scene spotted the Portland teen on foot at Southeast 174th Avenue and Main Street and arrested him.

The teen was booked into the Multnomah County juvenile detention center.
