FIRST ON 3: Handicapped person assaulted during home break-in

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Leland man is in jail accused of assaulting a handicapped person during a home break-in.

Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies arrested James Daniel Watson Jr., 26, Friday. He’s charged with burglary, larceny and assault on a handicapped person.

Investigators say between midnight and 3 a.m. Friday Watson broke into a home on Maco Road and stole about $600, credit cards and cigarettes. He also hit the victim on the side of the head.

Watson is in the Brunswick County jail under a $62,500 secured bond.
