Crimean Premier Declares 97 Per Cent for Russia Union

Crimea’s self-proclaimed prime minister, Sergei Aksyonov, has announced on Twitter that with 100 per cent of the referendum ballots counted, 96.6 per cent were in favour of joining Russia.

Mikhail Malyshev, who heads the Crimean parliamentary committee responsible for running the referendum, said these figures excluded the vote in Sevastopol.

A referendum was held in Crimea yesterday [March 16], but no state apart from Russia has recognised the legitimacy of a vote conducted on territory occupied by Russian troops.
