Since March 2014 there have been four major car accidents on the Stondon Park Road in SE23. 12 vehicles so far have been damaged or totally written off.

Two people have been hospitalised in separate incidents and one of them was almost fatally injured.

On 22 July 2014 a car had a head on collision with another on Stondon Park Road before mounting the curb and smashing through a residential wall.  Had a pedestrian been there they would have been killed.

Lewisham Council have written to me saying 'Stondon Park forms part of the Emergency Services Priority Network, has a number of bus routes and is a distributor route linking the A205 and the and A2/ A20  which caters for local traffic making journeys within the borough and joining high order routes. This does mean that the Councils options for traffic management are severely restricted. We cannot, for instance, use kerb to kerb speed humps as these can potentially jeopardise emergency service response times. Our engineers will asses the recommendations of the report in the autumn and will determine how best to proceed.'   

This isn't good enough. This a busy road that someone is going to get killed on if they don't take tangible steps i.e. installing traffic calming measures on Stondon Park Road.

I started this petition because it is a great area to live filled with great people who deserve to be able to walk down the street safely. I have seen too many accidents here and I don't want to see anyone else get hurt because of Lewisham Council’s bureaucracy and inaction.

You can make a difference by signing the petition and telling Lewisham Council that four accidents in five months due to speed of traffic is unacceptable and their lack of implementing traffic calming measures urgently is also unacceptable.

At the current rate of car accidents taking place Lewisham Council needs to bring in traffic calming measure before the end of September 2014. If they don't, someone else will be hurt (or worse, someone may be killed) and if this happens Lewisham Council will be complicit due their inaction.
