A Madisonville woman has been charged in stealing about $5,500 from a blind person she cared for as an in-home aide, police said in court records.

Chante Lewis, 33, accessed a bank card belonging to the victim, and performed dozens of unauthorized withdrawals amounting to about $5,500, police stated in court records filed in Hamilton County Municipal Court.

Lewis, who was arrested Tuesday, has been charged with 15 counts of receiving stolen property, and one count of theft, according to court records. She was employed by Interim Healthcare at the time of the thefts.

Interim Healthcare specializes in home care, hospice and other services, according to its website.

Representatives from Interim Healthcare couldn't be reached for comment Wednesday. It's unclear if Lewis remains employed there.

Lewis used the bank card 33 times from September through Oct. 31, according to police. Surveillance video captured Lewis performing unauthorized transactions on 16 occasions, police said.

The majority of the transactions occurred at the United Fidelity Bank at 411 Ludlow Ave. in Clifton, police stated in the complaint.

Lewis is being held at Hamilton County Justice Center on a $16,000 bond while awaiting trial.
