Publisher says it won't print book by author accused of child porn

More bad news for Portland author K.P. Bath.

A publishing house for children's books has chosen not to publish the latest work by Bath, 50, who was arrested last week on federal charges that he traded child pornography on the Internet.

Bath's new book, "Flip Side," was scheduled to be published in the fall of 2010 by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, in New York.

"Little, Brown Books for Young Readers was recently made aware of the allegations against K.P. Bath, author of 'The Secret of Castle Cant' and 'Escape from Castle Cant,' " the company wrote in a statement to The Oregonian.

"We have no knowledge as to the merit of the allegations, but there are no K.P. Bath titles currently available from Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, and there are no future plans to publish additional books with the author."

A company spokeswoman declined to elaborate on the timing of the decision other than to say the publishing house learned of the allegations in the last few days.

Bath did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
