Coachella Tickets

By: Alan Paone

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival takes place over two weekends in April this year. The first chance music lovers will have to enjoy a weekend of endless sets from their favorite groups is April 10-12. A second opportunity comes April 17-19.

The first weekend will include performances by AC/DC, Bad Religion, Chet Faker, and Cashmere Cat. A similar line up is also scheduled for the second weekend. Acts perform on various stages all day and well into the night, so fans of specific bands should check the schedule to see when their favorites are going to take the stage.

Music isn’t the only thing offered at Coachella. The festival is deeply committed to bettering the area so recycling in the form of art is encouraged. There is also an energy playground located near the campgrounds where seesaws create energy to charge cell phones and other electronics.

Concert attendees can either book a camping pass and stay on-site or select a package offered from an off-site hotel. Whatever you’re after, you’d better get your Coachella tickets sooner rather than later or you might miss out completely!

What Should I Plan to do at Coachella?

Though it may not be the oldest or most groundbreaking music festival in existence, it’s hard to beat Coachella in terms of the name-brand acts that grace its stages every year. And if you’re going to be shelling out hundreds of dollars for concert tickets you might as well get your money’s worth. While you probably won’t be able to see all the acts, that’s okay–they aren’t all going to be fantastic anyway. Here are a few tips to make this trip to Coachella the best one yet.

Skip the headliners if you can

Let’s get real–just because a band is headlining doesn’t mean it’s the best. It just means they are the best. What it means for you: those concerts will be even more crowded than the already jam-packed festival usually is, and you’ll be stuck getting sweaty elbows jammed in your ribs as you pretend to sing along to songs you might not know.

Don’t forget to people watch!

Even though it’s a music festival, one of the most exciting parts of Coachella isn’t listening to the bands. It’s watching your fellow festival goers, some of whom will likely look as though they are invading from another planet. While it’s no Burning Man, the fashion at Coachella is known for being…unique. Bring a camera or smartphone so you can show your friends the craziest outfits you find. And keep an eye out for celebrities–they may try to hide under hats, but they will be there!

Tips and Tricks to Save Money at Coachella

Coachella is, not surprisingly, one of the most expensive music festivals in the country. Tickets alone start at $349, but that’s just the beginning of expenses for most people. If you don’t live in California, going to Coachella usually means purchasing a plane ticket and hotel. You aren’t allowed to bring in food or drinks, so you will be stuck feeding yourself with overpriced food from vendors. And how could you pass up t-shirts and CDs from your favorite bands? The music is why you’re there, after all! But all of this can start to get a little pricey after a while. We’ve come up with a few tips and tricks that will stop you from completely breaking the bank, but don’t forget to have fun! You’re not going to thank yourself for being frugal if your Coachella experience is one long experience in self-denial.

  • Try camping instead of shelling out for a hotel–Tent or car camping can be considerably cheaper than even the cheapest motels. Yes, it can be a little warm, and you might feel a little grimy, but if you can handle roughing it for the three days, camping can really add to the experience.
  • Carpool!–If you are driving to Coachella from somewhere out West, it’s likely that there are others in your area planning on going too. Finding someone to share a ride with can save you a lot of money. Ask around and look online, and if you find someone you can trust, why not have a new adventure and make a new friend?
  • Pass up the swag–I know, I know, I just told you it was okay. But those t-shirts are overpriced, and many people end up regretting their purchase. You will always have the memories, and do you really need a t-shirt to show everyone what you did?

What Should I Wear to Coachella?

Coachella is famous for being an anything goes environment for fashion. In certain environments, the outfits that celebrities wear to Coachella are dissected more closely than what they choose to wear to the Oscars! With that kind of pressure, picking out your wardrobe can be as tough as deciding what acts you want to see! While there might not be a right or a wrong way to dress for Coachella, there certainly is an easy way and a hard way. We’re here to make it easy for you. Here are a few tips you might want to take into account when packing your bags!

  • Dress cheap. We’re not saying you have to wear your cut-offs from high school, but resist the temptation to show off and don’t wear the sun dress you’ve been saving for for three months. Music festivals are inherently messy, and it only takes one spilled beverage to wreck your perfectly assembled outfit.
  • Dress for sun. It’s California in the spring, not the Sahara in the middle of July, but it will probably be pretty warm. Plus, being stuck in a crowd with thousands of sweaty music fans will raise temperatures for everyone! That said…
  • Dress for the weather. If you look at the forecast and see that it’s supposed to rain, pack for the weather you’re going to get, not the weather you wish you had! Your warm, dry toes will thank you later.
  • Wear comfy shoes. This is the advice your mother has been giving you since she started letting you dress yourself, but we’re going to tell you one more time. If your dogs are barking at the end of the day, you won’t be able to enjoy your favorite bands. They may not be stylish, but even if your comfiest shoes look like something Grandma would wear, that’s the way to go!
