30,000 people suffer from a disability in Malta

Opposition spokesperson for the rights of persons with a disability Stephen Spiteri spoke for the first time in parliament during this legislature, mainly emphasizing that disabled persons should be given more opportunities to encourage them to join the labour force.

He said that there have been various incentives in the past which encouraged persons with a disability to enter the world of work and “we should all work towards creating more initiatives".

In Malta there are around 30,000 people who suffer from a disability of some sort, he said, adding “7,000 of whom have a visual impairment”.
