MIDVALE — A woman charged with neglecting her son who has disabilities for months and then leaving him without notice was arrested on an outstanding warrant Tuesday.
Geniel Wilson, 45, whose last known address was in Midvale, was charged in 3rd District Court with abuse or neglect of a disabled child, a third-degree felony.
According to charging documents, Unified police were called to an apartment in July after an 18-year-old man said he had run out of supplies and could no longer care for his disabled brother.
Police say the 16-year-old boy has spina bifida and is confined to a wheelchair. After he and his mother were evicted from their apartment, they moved in with his 18-year-old brother.
But a couple of days after arriving, their mother left the apartment and never returned. After three days, the older brother called police saying that he couldn't be at his apartment full-time to care for his brother and had run out of supplies.
The younger boy was admitted to a local hospital the next day for a staph infection that had gone untreated, according to the charges. He remained hospitalized for three months. The boy told investigators that he had developed the bed sore that later became infected eight to nine months earlier.
