A plea hearing scheduled Wednesday morning for Prince George’s County Council member Leslie Johnson has been postponed indefinitely.
Mrs. Johnson, 59, a Democrat, was arrested in November on charges of conspiracy to commit witness and evidence tampering as part of a federal corruption probe involving her husband, former Prince George’s County Executive Jack B. Johnson.
Mrs. Johnson is accused of destroying a $100,000 check and stashing $79,000 in her bra as federal agents came to the door of her Mitchellville home to serve a search warrant. Authorities say the check and the cash were bribe money given to her husband by developers who sought federal funding for development projects in the county.
No future court date has been set for Mrs. Johnson, said Marcia Murphy, spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland.
An attorney for Mrs. Johnson, Hardy Vieux, declined to comment about the postponement of the hearing.
Mr. Johnson has pled not guilty to charges of bribery and extortion and is currently awaiting trial. Constrained by term limits, Mr. Johnson, a Democrat, left public office in December.
