Jessica Hull returned home Saturday from the golf range with her 14-year-old son to discover bloody footprints inside the house.

Hull sent her son to a neighbor's to get help as she grabbed a club from her golf bag.

"I didn't know what was going on, and I heard a voice,'' she recalled Monday. "I couldn't tell if it was a voice outside or inside.''

Holding her club, she slowly went through her home.

As she reached a second-floor bedroom, she was shocked to find a man naked, bleeding and lying in a bed.

Hull quickly retreated from her house on Southwest Capitol Hill Road and called 911, she said.

When Portland police arrived, they found Forrest Avila-Crump, 21, in the home.

He told police he was high on mushrooms, according to a probable cause affidavit. He had entered the house by breaking a window on the side of the home, Hull said.

Avila-Crump was found with rosary beads he had taken from the bedroom, the affidavit said.

Avila-Crump, who turns 22 on Tuesday, was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center at 5:12 p.m. Saturday.

During an interview with court and jail authorities, Avila-Crump, of Southeast Portland, said he had ingested mushrooms and was unable to answer any questions, even seven hours after he was booked into custody, according to court records.

On Monday afternoon, he was arraigned on one count of first-degree burglary in Multnomah County Circuit Court.

He's being held at the downtown Portland jail on $50,000 bail and is due back in court on Feb. 10.
