A man has been arrested on suspicion of robbing a disabled man.

Police were called to North End, Croydon, at about 8.30am to reports that a man in a wheelchair had £50 cash stolen from him from a cashpoint.

Officers spoke with the woman who reported the incident and took her on a drive-around of the area.

A 25-year-old man was identified near George Street and arrested on suspicion of robbery. He remains in police custody.

Officers also searched the suspect’s home address and recovered items believed to be stolen goods.

Police Constable Edwin Sear, from Croydon’s Response Team, who attended the initial 999 call, said: “Thanks to the quick actions of another member of the public calling us we’ve been able to get there quickly and identify and arrest a suspect on suspicion of robbery.

“It really highlights the importance of reporting robberies to police as soon as possible, so that we have as good a chance as possible of finding those responsible.”
