A former employee at Health Central Hospital in Ocoee is accused of punching a disabled adult in the chest.

Roger Lea Scherer, 53, of Vancouver, Washington, was arrested Wednesday and charged with abuse of a disabled adult, a third-degree felony.

According to a release, the victim suffers from a mental disease that can cause the loss of limb control. According to the investigation, the victim's flailing arms hit Scherer, who then retaliated and allegedly punched the victim in the chest.

The investigation was conducted by the Medicaid Fraud Control unit of the Attorney General's Office and the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

If convicted, Scherer faces up to five years in prison and up to $5,000 in fines.
