No waiting despite a busy shop- nice job, expeditious and professional. And hot towel shaves!

We had been driving to Staunton for a cut at Two Weeks salon for nearly three years now for my husband and three boys. No more. Chungs is PHENOMENAL. 1000x better than two weeks. Efficient. Clean, and they do an amazing job cutting their hair and their beard services were outstanding for my husband. I can't recommend this place enough. This will be our only option moving forward.

Before visiting this barbershop, I was advised on where to go. I waited in front for approximately 20 minutes before a Barber was available. A few things I observed that I did not care for was the lack of cleanliness throughout the shop. Hair was beginning to build around the Barber's work areas, leading to into the walkway. They were not cleaning the chairs or clippers before and after cuts.
I would rate my actual haircut a six out of 10. I got a low fade to the skin. However, there are a couple of lines that are easily identifiable and will have to grow out.
I guess you truly get what you pay for. For $15, the haircut was OK, but you definitely do not pay for cleanliness.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - 1497722Sep 19, 2021
This place is superb. There's always someone available so you're not left waiting, and they are quick with their work (admittedly I get a buzz cut every time, hard to take long with that). Just a tip- they only take cash, no card. And the ATM inside is apparently broken. So come prepared.
And yes as other have said their is somewhat of a language barrier, so a bit more explanation for what you want may be needed. But these folks are very pleasant and happy to help. Try them out!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Layne R.Charlottesville, VA142180203Jul 9, 2022
I've been going to Chung's barbershop for over eight years now. I can honestly say without a doubt that this is one of the most consistently high quality places to get a haircut anywhere in the county of Albemarle or city of Charlottesville. The prices are inexpensive at around $15 for a men's haircut. For the quality haircut that you receive, this price is more than a bargain. I absolutely recommend this place to anyone who is new to the area or is a long-time resident looking for a new place to get a trim.

I like to give some time before writing reviews for places. I've been going to Chung's for about 5 years now. I have never had a bad experience and believe almost all of the barbers have given me a haircut at this point. Without a doubt, Sunny and David are probably my favorite (you'll see these names mentioned often in other reviews as well)... Over the past year I've started primarily going to Sunny at this point, but honestly you can get a haircut from anyone here and you'll receive a quality experience.
What I love: I love that you can walk in and almost always immediately be served without having to wait (unless you want to wait on a specific barber)... I will add that I tend to go first thing in the morning so it is often not very busy at this time; I can't speak to how busy it might be later in the day. I love the price of the haircut (and wash), currently I think it is $15. For the quality of haircut you receive, you can't beat this price.
What is OK: having to pay cash is a thing, but honestly several barbers in previous locations (Baltimore and NOVA) handled cash only so this wasn't the first time I've encountered this. They have an ATM inside which makes it easy to get cash if you need... basically all my cash becomes "haircut money" in our house now. The location is also somewhat tricky to get to if you are coming down 29 from the North... you have to make a u-turn at Rio from 29 and... it is a minor inconvenience.
What is bad: nothing. Nothing is bad. Go to Chung's!
I came to Charlottesville and was used to paying 24-30$ for a mens haircut and thought this is what you had to pay to receive a quality cut (no offense Haircuttery/other chain-type haircut places)... I was finding myself more and more disappointed at the location I was going to previously and was recommended Chung's by a coworker... I've never looked back and as long as I'm in Charlottesville I'll be going to Chungs.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Julia W.VA, VA02Aug 27, 2023
I've had good haircuts here and so has my wife. BUT, they changed the price for women, $5 more for the same style of cut (nothing extra) and the last time we were in, Sunny refused to cut my wife's hair. He told her he was "busy" but accepted the men who walked in after her. She's never been difficult or demanding, so..???

I have been going to Chung's Barber Shop since 2016 for my First Year at UVA and it's the only haircutter I'll patronize in Charlottesville. It felt like seeing an old friend again now that I'm back for my Master's. For $15 I got a great, straightforward men's haircut, they straightened up my sideburns, and gave me the most relaxing hair washing I've ever had, which is generally something I hate having done at a barber. I think those who complain are asking too much. Again, it's a $15 haircut in a strip mall, not some boutique, you get what you should expect. That said, they do a quality job efficiently, and I haven't had any wait the last three times I've been.
S/O to Lucy who gave me a great haircut Saturday, I'll see y'all back in the summer.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jason L.Moseley, VA011Apr 22, 2022
Please avoid the barber named David at all costs. He does not know how to cut hair at all and has ruined my hair on two occasions. He will ignore your input and proceed to cut all the hair off recklessly.
Avoid at all costs.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 3
